Need help

recently I bought a pioneer amp 180watts per chanel and bought Audica 5.1 speaker pakage which is 120watts per chanel. but the dealer and speaker company said it is ok to hook it to the amp 180watts.

I am bit warried. Please some one give me an advice!!!!!!!!!

i would imagine that your amp will be audibally distorting before it reaches it's max output. basically if you hear distortion turn it down, that way your speakers will be fine.

Don't worry as you are unlikely to use the full 180 watts output. At normal listening levels you only use the first few watts and your speakers will cope with those fine.

As an explanation for gpi's correct statement above, the human ear only responds to changes of 3dB, which is a doubling of sound pressure.

Therefore, to make a increase of volume from 0.1w requires only a change to 0.2w, then 0.4w, then 0.8w etc, whereas a change from 15w needs 30w, then 60w, then 120w and so on...so unless you are running your amp at maximum then the chances are you won't go much above 90w or so...

My speakers have a stated maximum power handling of 150W, but they sound bloomin' lovely driven by a 200 watts/channel amp! Just don't max anything, as noted, and you'll be fine.
