Soon legal to rip your music and movies?

Oh nos, if that happens then the next time someone asks what the best blu-ray ripping software is we'll have to actually answer the question!

The tricky part will come of course if you can't provide evidence of owning the original - ie. "My dog ate it". Could certainly cause some legal cases and would make it harder for copyright lawyers I'd imagine.

One way piracy could be cut down on is to remove all the "Piracy is theft" unskippable and annoying ads from purchased product - things you wouldn't have to watch had you obtained a pirate copy. Waiting to watch a film and having to skip/wait through random crap all the time, even if only for a minute or so, is always frustrating.

i know someone who has near 700 blu rays and when ripped flawless it takes so much room its not really worth it imo.

pirate copys will often come from purchased products so that want make a real differance imo. and the shady pre cinema releases will always be out there for people to watch if they like poor pq and sq.

i think the next major step is for a company to form a movie spotify where a £10 a month gets you sd films and £15 a month gets you 1080p hd but all will be in dd 5.1 not true hd or master dts so blu rays will still have a n egde and the site would have to wait till 12 weeks after the film goes on general sale. nice idea in my head.

No kidding! I sat through 5 minutes of these last night and including unskippable trailers only to get to the most rubbish film I have ever watched for a long time.

Looks like you need Netflix in the UK. $15 gets me movie streaming, plus 3 blurays at a time at home.

Used to atleast. Now, I just get streaming for $8 a month (and don't ever watch anything). Just too busy.

Clare - do you think this will have any impact on software coming to light that will rip the DSD on SACD's? All my CD's sit in a trunk, all ripped to FLAC to be played back bit perfect in any order I want through J.River Media Center. I'd love to get rips of the stereo DSD layer of my SACD's on my PC.
