Hi,
I just can NOT get my Sony MDS JB920 to play through my Cambridge audio A5, no matter where I plug the leads.
I note that all Sony amps have the double terminals for MD connection.
Before I buy a new Sony amp, does anyone have any suggestions of how I might get around this problem?
Please note that the A5 was a freebie but the minidisc player was a recent purchase so, I would rather replace the amp.
I am playing it through a pair of Ruark Prologue One's.
Many thanks,
Andy.

Make sure the OUT from the Minidisc is connected to the IN on the amplifier. The interconnects are the same so it's hard to say. If they are correct, try the minidisc output to, say, the CD input.

Don't worry about needing the MD label on the amp sockets- you don't.

2 questions:
Does the MD work out of its own headphone socket?
Does the A5 work with other sources?

The amp works with - phono, CD and Bluetooth receiver.
Just tried the md player with 'phones - nothing.

🙁
You say it was a recent purchase......

(Obviously there's something on the disc you're using - either commercially or self-recorded)

Well, you fixed it for me, albeit inadvertently.
I had given up, that's why I asked for advice.
You had me plug in some headphones and while I was sitting there listening to nothing, I looked at the md case and realised that I had recorded 4 albums on it.
On long play.
When I managed to find a disc recorded 1-1,guess what?
Everything works fine.
The Sony JB 920 doesn't support LP minidiscs.
What a donut.
So, thanks for your advice, it really did make a difference.
Regards,
Andy.

Glad it works Andy 👍

My brother bought the flagship 'UK tuned' 930 model years ago - I borrowed it for a while and was massively impressed.
With its digital in/outs and excellent editing capabilities (so much better than CD rewriteable recorders) it was way ahead of its time.
A lossy format maybe - but you're hard pushed to tell thanks to that ATRAC system.
