Hi All,

I am looking to buy a new 46-47 LCD TV.

I have been thinking about 2 sets, the Sony HX853, which I know has got the product of the year in this category, but after reading reviews, I know it is very good, but not perfect.

I also liked the Samsung UE 46ES7000, but for some reason the 46 version has not been tested here? I see you give 5 stars and good review to the 40" version.

can anyone give me dome advise to help me with my decision? Or even reccomended another set?

Cheers,

Mark.

If it was me I would go for the Sony, I bought a Samsung 46D8000 a couple of years back and it was really poor! I sent it straight back. I would also look at the Panasonic GT50.

I would echo gels thoughts here as I demoed the Samsung 46ES7000 and 8000 before I bought my Sony 46HX853 and every single one I tested suffered from terrible backlight bleed that intruded into picture quality. I demoed 6 sets in total as I loved the styling and features of these tvs but every single one suffered from exactly the same backlight issue and it was the bottom corners of the screen that suffered most, in one local dealer I went to they had professionally calibrated the screens but conceded that backlight bleed was an issue and that returns were high for these models.

Needless to say that was the end of me even considering either of these tvs despite the non existent bezel and lovely styling so for me it came down to the Sony 853 or Panasonic GT50 and after demos I went with the Sony...yes it's not perfect but then I firmly beleive that there isn't a perfect tv on the market currently. Both the Sony 853 and Panasonic GT50 have been the subject of many forum topics with various issues raising their head with both models so as ever I would advise getting a demo of both and make your own mind up which you prefer.

I remain very happy with my 46HX853 and I have only two minor complaints, some slight DSE but it's not distracting and a poor viewing angle but I can live with booth as in every other way it's the perfect tv for me, many votes will go to the GT50 aswell and gel has been very happy with his so you have two happy customers of both models.

+1 to both of the previous replys from gel & Oldboy.

Just to add from my perspective, I only purchased the Sony over the Panasonic because of the screen size, amount of electricity it used & my available space.

Regards ..

I have the 40" version of the Sony, and I can absolutely echo the other positive views here. As Oldboy says, it's not perfect (the plinth is a pain, tbh, but see the "stand nightmare" thread), but no TV is, and although you need to do a fair bit of tweaking, there's a wealth of advice on getting the best settings for a fantastic picture.
