maxflinn:gel, the latest 3d panasonics are now available, 42gt20, 42vt20, and the 46in versions, i think that because they are cheaper than the hx803, that the sonys price may drop a bit, perhaps you should wait for a few more weeks? see what happens? the sony 3d sets are overpriced at the moment imo..

I think my panasonic days are numbered Max, yep i am not in a rush and these tvs seem to drop dramatically in prices at times.

Hopefully a killer deal will pop up.

Cheers.

Gel: Has someone who has been through the Panasonic treadmill, I've ended up with a Sony 46HX703. So far I'm very pleased with it. Whilst it doesn't have the black levels of the G20. It makes up for it in other areas. The 200hz motion plus is excellent. It is very subtle so far I've not seen any of the 'soap opera' affect with it. I have it set to standard on Freeview and Sky+ (non hd). Even watching movies on Sky movies there are no issues. I have it turned off for Blu-rays and gaming though. The image is far sharper than the G20 also, and scaling of sd channels is better. I paid £1175 for mine with a 5 year warrenty. I must admit when I first started looking for a tv Sonys where not on my list because of all the comments onbacklight bleed and clouding. Funny how it has turned out.

Going for a HX803 is all well and good but remember if you want the 3d then you will have to change your Pioneer bd player to one where you will loose the hd audio. Unless you go for the Panasonic 300 model. I don't know if the upcoming Sony 770 has 2 hdmi or 7.1 analogue outputs. If it has the 7.1 outputs then you will be losing the hd decoding of the amp. Something to think about? Don't just take into account the picture quality look at how you fits your needs now and in the future.

Max: The new Panasonics are based on the same G13 panel and will have the same software driving them. It is still going to be the same lottery as to whether the customer will get a good one or a bad one. Demoing in the shop is all well and good but it doesn't compare to viewing in your own home neither is trawiling the web for reviews. Getting the tv from a shop with a good returns policy is the best thing. As for saying that paying a premium on some of the Sony sets over the EX is not worth it. Was it worth it on the V20 over the G20? It's not fare to band about info without taking your own experiences into account.

hi nsy, i was only pointing out that the availibility of the new 3d panas may help to drive down the price of the more expensive sony 3d sets, i wasnt suggesting that gel consider buying one...

as regards the sonys, i was just giving gel my opinion,he asked about purely picture quality, which from what i have seen, doesnt vary massivley from the ex503 to the mid-ranged edge lit sets, thats just my opinion, from my experience..

yes it was worth it for me getting a v series set over the g, because of the deeper blacks..

We recently got the KDL 46 EX 703 and with a bit of tweaking with the old THX specs and a set up disk are well happy. Its got the eco auto shut of thing which saves power and there is very little reflection as the screen has a matt finnish, sound is fine . Altogether as I said well pleased. ( I believe Sony are offering a BD 570 as a part ex incentive, keep this or flog it on e-bay.)

Hi

The Sony KDL40HX803 is a very good set and can be found for a very goo price (inc. glasses and transmitter).

You may want to also consider the KDL40HX703.

Good Luck

I have had a good look at this in 46inches and thought it was really good, i did not see the blu ray player being offered as well though, i will have another look at it.

Cheers mate

Gel,

Didn't you just buy a brand new Panasonic VT20/V20?

Has that given up on you so quickly?

I had a look at this set today, 40hx703 the 200hz looked very good on it.

What hi fi also like it alot, the 46inch seems to be in very short supply though, also i am still not 100% sure it is better than the nx after comparing the two.

Cheers mate

Please forgive me for butting in but I, too, am looking at the Sony 40" range and am puzzled by the range of choices. Looking at the Sony WEB page, the choice seems to be between the LX903, HX803 and NX713 if 3D futureproofing is required. But can anyone tell me the difference between Edge LED backlighting on the 903 and Dynamic Edge LED on the other two? Also, is an OptiContrast Panel on the 903 better than a Deep Black Panel? I am assuming that Motionflow 200 is better than the 100 on the 713. Finally which of the TVs has the monolithic tilt adjustable stand?

On prices, I can't find anything on the WEB page about free five year maintenance, and do I have to lug my 26" Sony CRT into a Sony Centre to claim a trade in discount? If so , I will need a fork lift truck.

I am confused as too why they need so many models? surely they would be better off concentrating on producing fewer but better quality ones?

I am not sure if i am doing the right thing by spending alot of money on these, or whether i should go for ex503.

Thanks

And as you have found out Black level means nothing when not backed up by other aspects of the picture. If you had no problems with the demo of the shop displey model, have you not thought about seeing if they would do you a deal on that one?

There was a lot of issues with banding, posterisation, motion blur, phosphor trailing, loud buzzing and fan noise before you got yours, that's why I originally went for the Samsung c750. I looked at the G20 in a couple of stores before I got my first one. I saw no problems. Maybe it was the store environment? When the second one was problematic I did the rounds again. This time I noticed some of the issues on all the G20s I viewed. I even did a reset on mine at home and set it to shop mode before I set out so I could compare in that mode as well. I bet you will now see some form of fault on most V20 sets. I demo'ed a 50 and 65v20 before a lot of people at the Gadget Show Live. I had a good chat with the guys from Panasonic. Only then I wasn't looking for a tv so was easily wowed by a bright hd image. If only I knew then...

well im going to say the 46hx903 as ive just ordered it
emotion-2.gif
got it for £2700 with a "designer" TV stand and the bdv e870, quiet the bargain i think, just hoping that the release date sticks for the end of the month, oh btw i ordered it from simply electronics, and if you audition it in store you can save yourselves £250 on the 5yr warranty, no brainer really.

Clare Newsome:With the insane size of the Sony range, this could take all week...Just tell us what you've bought, gel!

I don't think it will take much longer
