I Havent set up my system yet (waiting for my speaker connectors) but understand that Sky HD has a problem with this Reciever, after reading WHF i understand that it has been resolved and a new page in the instruction booklet explains it, however i dont seem to have it!

Does any one know how to set it up or where i can download a copy of the illusive instructions?

Also i currently run my PS3 through an optical cable to my old amp (No HDMI), will i need to still do this or will the HDMI connection alone be ok?

If you don't have the extra page, you may have a receiver without the upgrade that solved the problem.

It's probably a case of checking back with the retailer where you bought it, or running the serial number past Sony to check whether it's one of the sorted ones.

I haven't seen anything about the upgrade and instructions on any of Sony's websites - anyone would think the company was being coy about the error...

And no, you won't need the optical cable between PS3 and the receiver - the HDMI will do the job.

No, the receiver's only been available since last Summer, and some were in retail before the problem was discovered and a fix put in place.

There's always the chance that one or two could have slipped through the net - I seem to remember something about a blue sticker on the box and an extra A4 sheet being included to explain the new procedure for overriding the HDMI digital input.

I received my Sony STR-DG820 2 weeks ago and it was an old unfixed variant (no blue dot). I immediately rang Sony and logged a call to receive the upgrade and 2 weeks later I have heard absolutely NOTHING from Sony, despite a chase call. I am now wishing I had just returned the unit to the supplier, as I have absolutely no idea when Sony will fix my amplifier and make it fit for purpose.

Sony support is clearly a waste of time.

If you contact Sony they will arrange with a local Sony Engineer to take your unit away and carry out the upgrade. I had my unit upgraded free of charge back in February after first making contact with Sony last October. I downloaded the additional page from the Sony website showing the additional input mode available. To check if you have the upgrade do the following. Power up the amp and select SAT. Press the input mode button on your remote. If it cycles through AUTO, ANALOGUE, OPT you have the latest upgrade.

Hi, I have just gotten sky hd (got my 820 in October or November) and I have checked the input mode as shown in the above post and I seem to have the updated 820, however I have gotten the 'HDCP display not supported' message a couple of times when watching sky. I have the sky hd box connected into the SAT HDMI inlet on the 820 and the HDMI out on 820 going to the TV. Is the problem that the 'fix' was supposed to actually fix.? My firmware version is 1.40, which you can check by turning off the 820, then hold down the music and tone mode buttons while powering it back on. The version comes up on the display. I have checked my manula and don't seem to have any loose photocopied page. Does anyone know what the this page started off with, event he title of the page, in case it's actually bound into my manual. Or am I getting my knickers in a twist and just have to get an optical cable from the 820 to the Skhy HD box?

Thanks

Gordon

I think the box also had a blue sticker to indicate it was updated. Hopefully a fellow 820 owner will be able to confirm.

I don't understand why you are getting the HDCP error and in particular why you only get it intermittently. Do you get any error messages when connecting directly to the TV via HDMI? What TV is it by the way?

Regardless of the HDCP issue, in order to get DD5.1 from Sky+HD you will need a digital audio cable, either an optical or digital coax cable and then assign the input to the HDMI input on the amp. The 'fix' allowed the amp to override HDMI audio and assign a digital audio input so that the video is passed over HDMI and the audio is passed over the digital audio cable.

You will need to change the settings on the Sky+ HD box to DOLBY D in the sound settings menu too.
