Sony STR DA5500ES Availability/Reviews

Dear WhatHiFi,

I have not found much information searching the WhatHiFi site for news/reviews regarding the new Sony STR DA5500ES, which I imagine is the replacement for the award-winning 5400ES. Have you been able to acquire and review this kit? It appears to be available for purchase from a couple of UK retailers. If anyone has seen this machine in action, please give us your opinion, especially as to how it compares with the 5400ES. Images below courtesy of Sony UK - Sony Europe.

My apologies Andrew. Are there guidelines on the maximum size of images?

I simply used the Insert/edit image tool provided..., trying to re-size them using re-size, but it seems it didn't work the way I thought it would. 🙁

Max 400px wide, or they bust out of the page.

Just make sure any images you post are no wider than 400pixels!

So using links like receiver front and rear is probably the way to go when images are too large.

Should have thought of this at first.

Hopefully, this discussion won't divert people too much from responding to the OP.

The 5500 is not out just yet ( in the UK anyway ) we are expecting our first delivery between Christmas and New Year, perhaps very early Jan.

The 5500 replaces the 6400 . There is a small difference in the specification but the biggest change is the 5500 can not act as a server ( only a client ) unlike the 6400.

The 6400 was a very good machine, we really liked it although the client/server portion was never that great. Sound and build quality were superb and the amp fought it out with the Pioneer LX81 to give you an idea of the level.
