get a plasma and you run way less risk of having issues by the looks of many threads on here. Buy a plasma and be a very happy bunny. I know thats not a very helpful post if you have your heart set on an lcd, but a plasma is a much better all rounder IMO.

i've been researching for a LCD for the past two years now and this year i decided ok I'm ready to own my very first LCD. Last year when samsung lauched their series of LCDs I thought for certain i would want to own the 5 series lcd but then they later lauched their 6-7-8 & now 9 series. during this time sony lauched their w4000 and thought ok this the one i want to own so i waited hoping for a price decrease and then out came the w4500 ! i thought this is definitely the one! But after reading the many posts on this forum with the many issues experienced with the w4500 i wasn't prepared to spend so much cash and accept the risks of faulty Lcd. so i found my self back at the drawing board as i'm certain sony are to after the issues with the w4500 ! i decided to look at alternatives and found my interested in the samsung 6 series 650 man what performer! i just purchased it yesterday! An excellent lcd if you have just entered the market looking for your first lcd. So i woud recommend the samsung and this is coming from a sony fan!

Samsung. The higher end models with LED backlighting have better colours than sony's unless it's one of their Bravia Pro Engine models. Black blacks too but nowhere the detail of a good plasma and you have to ask them to turn everything down as the shop settings usually look horrendous, more so on the Samsungs than most others for some reason.

When I recently demo'd TV's the only LCD I found to rival plasma for pic quality was the Samsung LED range, I can't remember the model number but I'm sure it was 786. I've heard the 9 series are even better and add network functionality.

I ended up with a plasma though!!
