I have just purchased a Sony KDL-40Z5800, delivered yesterday and it looks aesthetically great. However the picture in the top right and left corners and to a lesser extent all down the left edge and right edge of the panel is not as bright as the rest of the panel. Is there any way I can rectify this using the TV settings ? Has anyone else experienced this ?

what does it look like when displaying no image ?? ie , the tv is turned on , but with no image on the screen , just a blank screen ..

What sort of area are we talking about? Is it in straight lines at the edge of the picture or is it more of an uneveness?

One guy on the german Hi-Fi forum experienced exactly the same thing. He called technician who has taken the instrument panel to exchange, but did not guarantee anything, as even after exchange this problem may reappear elsewhere or even strengthen. Hmm not that good of an advertisement for newly minted king.
Is this not the infamous Sony uneven backlight problem, which has been reported to be a big problem with their TVs?
