sony kdl-40x3500 DVB-T2 receiver freeview hd

Short answer no, you will need a tuner that will decode MPEG4 AFAIK they are not available yet.

Investing in freesat may be a better bet.

I'm not quite sure why Freesat is better. HD content is poor and limited. If you want decent HD content now, Sky is the only way to go.

With regards to freeview HD, the Granada region are piloting it at the end of 2009/beginning of 2010 on (I believe) 4 channels, but viewers will need to purchase a decoder to receive them.

Is the DVB-T2 only used for european HD broadcasts then? I would have thought that there should be a universal standard across the EU at least?

By the way, the reason your tv will not be compatible is that it has a DVB-T tuner and not a DVB-T2 tuner. When (if) HD Freeview comes to the UK it will use the later DVB-T2 system for HD channels.

Hi alsina, I checked the spec and my tv does have a DVB-T2 tuner for HD (freeview) on the continent What will the U.K. HD freeview spec be then?

You are getting confused with a DVB-T tuner that can handle MPEG4 AVC. This is a different thing and will not be compatible with HD DVB (Freeview) in the UK, The specification of the DVB-T2 tuners has only just been finalised in the last few months and no actual tuners exist just yet. Hopefully there will be tv's available with these built in by the end of the year, your tv on the other hand was released in 2007. Let's hope HD on Freeview will be worth the wait when it does finally arrive.
