Sony DCR100 freeview DVD recorder - stuck in Update mode

Not entirely sure this is the right forum but it doesn't seem to sit right in the others. I've had the above for about a year and the display will regularly display 'UPDATE' to signify that the electronic programme guide is being updated, normally it seemed to be doing that early in the morning when I left for work. It has been displaying 'UPDATE' since last Weds and won't turn on. When I disconnected/reconnected to the mains it cleared but most of the programme guide was blank. It soon went back into 'UPDATE@ mode and seems stuck in it. Anyone out there got any ideas how I clear this - Particularly you guys on here in the Sony centres.

After you have plugged it back in is there a method for resetting/back to factory settings that you can use?

Should tell you in the manual.

Edit. When you unplug it give it 5-10 minutes before plugging back in.

You need to do a firmware update,detail's here.hope it help's.
