Sony Centre should try to compare their Bravias with a Philips if they feel their LCD are the best outthere? It will be a fight to the finish like a Burmese Pathon vs an Alligator. I find the idea to be of poor marketing picking on the hapless National Panasonic. Panasonic makes grest BD players and mainly focusing on Plasma panels, and is the Pana been dissed at in SCs an LCD or Plasma???

Or try dissing a PIONEER KURO LCD with its brush aluminum finish and front contrast fliter. I say bring it on SCs

I like to see WHAT HI FI do a Pioneer LCD Kuro 32 comparsion with Sony 32E5500

We know who will win. Also The 32E550 is twice the price of the 32v5000 and isn't twice as better!

I think it may yet be.

The Panasonic being used in SOME Sony Centres is a plasma - 600Hz sub field driving, so its not an unfair comparison at all.

As for the suggestions about using Philips sets etc. you are completely missing the point. Its not intended to be about dissing the competition but instead to show customers the difference between two of the most popular and highly regarded sets.

My final word on this ridiculous thread.

"dishing" is nonsense. As is most of this thread...

Ah right - so nothing to do with satellite, then...?

Hmmm and do you think Sony Centres would be doing it if they thought the Panasonic was better? They're hardly going to want to put up a competitor's TV alongside one of theirs just for customers to go and buy the Panasonic instead!

This goes back to my point about single-brand dealers - unless the Sony Centre buys (as they not dealers for other brands presumably they'd have to buy them) an equivalent TV for every Sony model they stock, how can it be a relevant comparison?

(* and this also applies to all the other Sony gear)

I have finally seen the comparison at SC between the two TV sets. You are going want to hear this! The cliam is that both sets are on standard factory setting. And Yes the Pana looks rubbish by comparison.

Frankly, who watches a TV on standard factory setting??? Anybody knows the sets should be adjusted and calibrated by respective representatives to be fair.

The test is totally unfair. SC...

This is how it should be done:

In Curries they have an LCD, Plasma, and Led all calibrated and all looked great, and frankly you couldn't pick a set that stood out.The demo footage was an assortment of film and HD video

Pana' should go to court to have that Pana set removed from the SC unless SC agrees to let a Pana rep do the calibration. And didn't What HI Fi say in a recent test of a Philips TV that if the calibration isn't done propertly then the TV can look poor. It took them half an hr but it was worth it...turned it to be the top set in the review??

Don't the Pana set deserve the same tune up routine.Of course

Its bad apples on Sonys part. What they are trying to do is bully you in to thinking there TV's are the best "we are Sony all the others are evil" sort of thing. I think the brain washing starts with this magazine. As I think Sony stuff is overpriced, badly built and in my view really average. Also Im not one of these people who have never seen a Sony TV but seem to have a opinion that I have to take note of.

rant over

sorry

Sheepboy... its the Sony Centre that you should wave a stick at and not Sony Japan. I am glad they are not related

The great vision of ???? Morita Akio, still lives on in Sony Japan on Japanese soil. R.I.P

So you've seen it in one Sony Centre, and the uncalibrated Sony looks better than the uncalibrated Panasonic?

Well, that's a shock. I would have thought the Sony Centres's point in doing this little marketing initiative was to show how the Panasonic was better than the Sony.

Or in other words...

I think you're giving the general public far too much credit. Aside from those of us that inhabit places like this I think most people do exactly that, plug the TV in, leave it on the factory settings and never even consider that it could look better. Indeed if they're anything like my brother-in-law will insist that properly set up the set looks worse and insist you put it back to the factory settings...

In Curries they have an LCD, Plasma, and Led all calibrated and all looked great,

I've never been in a Curries where ANY of the TVs were even running a decent source, they're always fed by coax and look dreadful, John Lewis is the only big store that I've ever seen running an HD source.

It's called marketing.

I think the brain washing starts with this magazine.

Of course it does, that's why the magazine has been consistently marking Sony TVs down in recent months because of the backlighting issues. If you're going to throw accusations about, at least make sure they stand up to a grain of inspection.

Well, the post above yours certainly is! I quoted the wrong person entirely and so made no sense whatsoever!

Would that be before or after sonyse2t5 has sent in the Panasonic Yakuza to trash the place...?

Well, I guess you better do both - just to be on the safe side...
