I ordered the above BD player a month ago from SSAV, having waited for said month I got in touch with the branch I ordered it from. The man on the phone was very apologetic about not getting back to me sooner etc and cutting a story short told me that he couldn't get the player as Sony have discontinued it and will be replacing it with the BDP s780!

I was very surprised to hear this especially as last months WHFSAV had only just reviewed it then, a day after I rang SSAV, this months copy of WHFSAV is raving about the player in it's 3D player test.

Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks Andrew, I'll give a few other dealers a call to see if they have any in stock

I've been looking for several weeks now to buy the Sony 770 Blu-Ray player. It received another group test win in the most recent magazine but Sony tell me that the product is now discontinued. Do you know where I can get one?

Also slightly disappointed that What HiFi are giving recommendations to a product that is no longer available.

At the time of going to press on that test, we had no indication from either Sony or retailers regarding stock problems on the 'S770 Blu-ray player.

Oddly enough, we had this exact situation with the 'S760 last year, and yet stocks returned to normal after the pre-Christmas rush.

Yes, i'd expect a new model to be announced early next month at CES, but I wouldn't expect that model to be in the shops immediately.

Stocks are low on a lot of popular products right now - due to manufacturers and retailers being cautious about holding too much stock, plus UK problems with getting products to market due to the weather.

Thanks Clare. As an alternative, are you planning to review any of the new Denon Blu-ray players soon?

When they become available, certainly.

Many manufacturers - especially of the higher-end players - are having chipset supply problems, just to add to the fun!

Just picked up my Marantz UD5005... but I've had to hand it over straight away to go under the Christmas tree. Anyway, it seems that Denon/Marantz have finally got the chipsets sorted as the Denon 1611 is also available now.

Just my look after months of weighing up whether to upgrade my 370 to 770 with a TV upgrade due mid next year, I finally have had some money given to me for Xmas and my birthday in Jan and now it looks like I have to re- think.

I see a Gear4 unity in my future instead I think.
