Sony BDP-S370 SACD output

Hi

I saw the review of the BDP-S370 and it looks very good. But even after reading the manual for it, I can't make out if it outputs SACD only by way of HDMI and if it does so only in 2 channel or in 5.1.

Can anybody help? If it doesn't output 5.1 (and analogue) I'll have to revert to Plan A and keep saving for a CA 650BD.

It can play 2 channel and multi channel via hdmi but there are no multi channel analogue on this player.

Read a buyer's review on amazon that states that the SACD sound was not as good as his denon's which had DSD native circuitry because the Sony has to convert to PCM first.

That is the whole point as if it will output in LPCM the only advantage you will get is the multichannel, as fro 2 channel you might as well listen to a CD.

Thanks to all for the advice. It seems I should wait until I get a chance to see/hear the Cambridge Audio player. BTW I already have a Denon DVD-1940, so until I can afford something substantially better, I'll stick with that for SACD & CD duties.

I'm not sure this is accurate.

I have just got an s-370 and fixed it up to my marantz av receiver.

The instructions are not very detailed and initially I was disappointed with the sound of a 5.1 music SACD which did just sound like a CD in 5.1.

After a bit of rereading and searching on the internet to learn the terminology I altered the Sonys audio settings, DSD output mode to on, the Marantz lit up showing up a DSD reading and the sound became far more seamless and detailed particularly with the pure audio in place.
