Sony BDP-S370 - Ok..

Got it yesterday, and no problems yet - connected via HDMI to my Sammy LCD - no picture dropouts, no sound dropouts but I am listening in stereo.

Picture quality is great - it does handle picture noise well. Also, not experiencing any motor noise that some have - it's no noisier than the 360.

This player is a bargain.

Hi manicm,

I hope you are not exercising Sony bias there? LOL

Seriously, glad you are happy with your new purchase, it does sound like it is a fabulous budget player. I have Pana's BD35 and have had it about 2 years, been thinking about replacing it, but then again, why? It performs great and I could save my hard earned for supermarket beer/wine special offers.

Hope all goes well with the Sony.

Just recieved my Sony BDP-S370 this morning, after weeks of weighing up my options, I finally took the plunge. I upgraded from a Panasonic DMP-BD30, all I can say is that this player betters it in every possible way. Picture I would say is much cleaner looking, sound is fantastic, and no drop outs at all, I have it connected to a reciever though. The menu is slick, very fast load up times, response times are fast, feels and performs exactly as a blu ray player should. Also the BBC I player is absolutely fantastic, picture in HD is superb, in comparison to iplayer on the PS3. There are also loads of other options I have still to check out. Anybody who is thinking of getting this player, it is a well worth upgrade if your player is 2 or 3 years old.

No, not at all :) Thing is if I wanted a more significant upgrade in picture quality - my main priority - it seems I'd have to spend a lot more - i.e. your Denons etc. In fact Sony's real step-up would be from the 770 only from what I glean (read the 570 review here).

If I have to be brutally honest - the 370's perceived image depth seems less than the BDP-S360 i.e less 3Dness. But there's less picture noise on the 370 on both Blu-rays and DVDs. The sound however is still stonking - as good as if not better i.e brilliant.

Not sure I want to ask this question, (the answer could cost me money, albeit a small amount, £100ish), but here goes.

So in your impression would it be a step up from my Pana BD35?

Many thanks

I can only compare it against my Panasonic BD-30, and it is a major step up from that. Its just so responsive, load times, fast forward, rewind, in comparison to the bd-30. I put an external hard drive into the front and it played everything, including high def material, flawlessly, and without any effort. Also it is whisper quiet. Cant say enough good things about it, just buy it and you wont be disappointed.

hi all, first posting here. i myself just purchased this player as well, and i can attest to all the favourable remarks by the other owners. the load time is brilliantly quick, it's really quiet and the picture quality is just superb. i can't comment on the sound quality because at the moment it's just hooked up to my stereo system.

anyways, i'm having trouble with playing material from external hard disks. audiowizard, i take it that you mean it's an external hard drive, not a usb flash drive, yeah? can you give me some tips on how to make a good connection with an external hdd? what kinda of file system (ntsf, fat32, etc), what type of ext. hdd drive (brand, make), are there any limitations to maximum size of the external hdd, is there a certain folder/file arrangement which needs to be complied with, etc etc. i'm using a seagate freeagent 500mb formatted to the ntsf file system. i hope you, or someone can help. thanks!

I had PS3 Slim and S370.

Reg External HD - They only Support FAT32. I am assuming your drive is 500GB and not 500MB. There are some free software available to format a drive to FAT32 (You can just google as I forgot the one that I used myself) and afterwards your BDP recoginizes the content. I used a Western Digital 500GB and it works fine. If you encounter challenges with my File Formats (especially MKV) then you can use MKV2VOB software which supports some other format to and splits larger files to fit in the 4GB file size limitation of FAT 32.
