When I select BBC iPlayer for example, an overlay pops-up saying

Checking network connection

Please wait....

When this disappears it just returns to the Home menu and I have to select iPlayer again, Does everyone else get this, or is it something to do with my set-up? If it's normal behaviour then it seems like a bug to me - either it should test the network connection when you first power on, or it should go straight to your selection after checking.

On the subject of iPlayer, is there anyway to control how much it buffers? I was trying to watch a episode of Mountain Gorillas last night and gave up after about 20 mins due to it pausing to download every couple of minutes. Even putting it on pause for half an hour got no more than a couple of minutes buffered.

It seems like not very well written software to me. I think mine drops its connection to the router if not used for a while. If I select iPlayer or YouTube it'll sometimes load straightaway but other times I get the 'checking... 1,2,3'. I'd expect it to then go into the chosen service but no, I have to go back to the home and re-select.

So it doesn't look like it's your machine in particular. It's a bit annoying but doesn't bother me too much...

I have mine set to quick start - so I wonder if you turned that off it would include a quick ping on the LAN each time you power up in order to connect to the router?
