How much did you pay for your HDMI's? If they were cheap you need to throw them away and get new ones. I recommend QED silver Reference. If the Budget is tight then go for QED performance. However for the Products you have you would benefit from the Silver reference range. Try that and reply for further help and I'll do what I can.

Throwing money at cables is silly. Try to borrow some possibly, but it is likely a read of the manuals will help.

If the unit i shutting off there is a possibility that the amp is shorting. I would check all of your speaker connections - are you using plugs - and if there are no stray wires try the input connections as well. If that is fine then take the amp out of the set up and run the BDP directly to the screen.

My soon to be replaced Pioneer VSX 1014 did the same when I first set it up. The reason was that I had accidentally phased one of the speakers. The amp detected this and shut itself off automatically. It took me an age to figure out, so; first things first - double check the wiring on ALL of your speakers before you spend any money, and ensure that you have the cables running + to + and - to -. Secondly, check to make sure that no strands of wire are hanging out the back of the amp's speaker connections, and touching the cable for another speaker, and thirdly, if your amp has it, run the speaker connections test again to see if the amp reports any problems (via the fascia).

On the subject of hdmi connections, just borrow one off a friend for now, and if possible run the player directly into the set via your old cable to test the basic 'circuit', and move on from there.
