Sony AV Amp with Kef Speakers?

I’m looking to purchase an AV Amp and speaker package in the near future.

The OH likes the look of the Kef KHT1005.2 and the Sony STRDN1000 from an aesthetic point of view.

Given that it is generally reckoned that Sony AV amps can sound a bit on the bright side would the Kef package be a good match for the Sony amp. Does anyone have experience of these speakers with a Sony amp? or do I need to rethink on speaker package or amp.

Any constructive comments are welcome.

Thanks

Hi Laserman.

I have a Sony STRDA 5200 ES hooked up to those speakers in a room with bare walls and wood flooring and I think it sounds great. Granted the amp is more expensive than the one you're looking at but IMO you'll be fine.

Thanks for that Wovian.Glad your pleased with your setup.

My floor is carpeted and walls not bare so I suppose that should soften things up a bit

I have a Sony STRDA 2400 ES AV amp (bit more expensive than the amp you're looking at, at £400) partnered with KEF 2005.3 speakers, and I'm very happy.

I've noticed that the KEF 2005.3 package is available in silver for only a fiver more than the KEF 1005.2 package you mention. Might be worth trying to audition both? (my KEFs are black, but I paid a £100 premium over the cost of the silver ones!...).

Yes I noticed the KEF 2005.3 in silver at that price so thats another idea into the melting pot and they are a better package than the KEF 1005.2

Hi laserman16

Ime you should also consider Yamaha AV amps. I have lost count of the number of varoius KHT series speakers that i have sold with various Yamaha AV amps over the years. They are a great match particularly as Yamaha's Cinema Digital Soundfield Processing (DSP) and Kef's Uni Q technology compliment each other.

Btw, the 2005's are much better than the 1005's.

Thanks

That's because KEF have discontinued the silver KHT speakers, so these will be available a little cheaper at many places. Black is still current, so will be nearer normal price.

Running a 2400 ES with KEFs in a room with bare walls, ceramic floors and 5 metres of glass down one side. It sounds awesome!

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply everyone.

Thanks Musicraft, I'll have a look at the Yamahas as well, which is another option to explore before I take the plunge.
