Sonos / Spotify problems

I've been having problems this week playing spotify through sonos. It seems to have coincided with new software / controller coming out, I think on Tuesday. I hadn't actually downloaded it; but still had a problem just downloaded it and same problem. There is a thread about it on the sonos help page with the typical complaints about silence from sonos. I've turned everything off and on, reset controller etc.

Anyone else having a problem? Any suggestions?

That is weird. The thread I looked at didn't suggest it was a controller problem but I'm sure it can manifest differently. Have you tried using computer as controller? iPhone with ios7 doesn't work for me, nor does using my laptop. Haven't tried the nexus 7.

Since the software upgrade I can no longer use the Spotify search box in the Sonos PC controller, which is my main way of accessing Spotify.

Bummer.

I'm sorry to hear that Matt, although glad I'm not alone. It's not the only way I use spotify but it's the only way I listen to new music with it and I have a queue of about 200 songs I've been looking forward to listening to and am getting very frustrated that I can't.

I'm having intermittent Spotify problems, doesn't make a difference if I use iThing or Mac Mini as the controller.

That's strange. I joined Spotify only 2 days ago (got 2-year Spotify Premium subscription for free with my Vodafone contract) & played music via Sonos today for an hour or so. No problems encountered.

I've just experimented with one of the potential oddities highlighted in the help thread. I can play spotify if I add to the queue through the spotify icon, but I can't play if I add to the queue from a sonos playlist. I've got a CD on now so I can't be bothered to work through adding my playlist again. Shows it's Sonos' fault not Spotify's.

I agree. The Sonos software update seems to have EDITED Spotify up.

I've had a great time with Spotify over the last couple of months. Love it. But I've always felt more comfortable owning and controlling my own music (in my case files streamed from a NAS by Sonos). The current problem -- whoever's fault it is -- is a salutary reminder of that.

I've been almost exclusively using sonos for most of this year and had been vaguely toying with the idea of getting rid of my CDP to release some funds. Not gonna happen now.

I don't see why problems with spotify would stop you getting rid of your cdp, you've ripped all your cds for use with Sonos haven't you? Spotify has nothing to do with that.

Check the first reply from the Sonos rep.

Been toying with a NAS for ages, but have just signed up to iTunes Match.

Pi haven't yet but I'll connect my ATV to the Sonos using a £30 FILO DAC.

I've ripped many of my CDs rather than all of them and some of those are ripped at 320 from the 'old days'. I also don't have a NAS. Not entirely related to this issue I recognise, so no need to start a debate about it, but enough to tip me back into definitely wanting to keep my CDP.

Yeah that's the thread I'd seen. Lots of people asking for further updates from Sonos, which have not been forthcoming.

I don't really follow the logic but it's your business.

Well, presumably they haven't fixed it yet, so there's nothing more to say?

Presumably you mean using the ATV as an input into the Sonos? What would be the point of a DAC in that setup?

ATV(3) only has digital outs.

I cant see the point of the ATV into the Sonos personally though.

That just makes for a ridiculously clunky setup.

The DAC is small so I'd just stick it to the back of the stand out of sight.

Its far from a perfect solution, but until when/if Sonos gets support for Match it is a make do. I have two ATVs though so might not bother.

Seems to be working fine on Nexus 4,7 & Tesco Hudl (all Android). Ipad also seems OK.

The kids are loving the new play/pause function of the 'mute' button as they can finally control it without borrowing our phones.

Spotify seems to be working fine via the iPhone Sonos app, but on the Sonos Desktop Controller there's no search function.

My desktop controller has just offered an update and when I click on spotify on the RHS the search box in the top right becomes a 'spotify' search (as it was before the update).

Have you been offered an update in the last few days?
