Thanks for them Joel, tastefully done, not what I was expecting at all... not sure Yello brick road worked that well though, the other two may even be an improvement!

They are the real ones rather than mixes

Lol!

They sure sound different... Big jet plane is slower, Yellow brick road vocals sound like they've been recorded in an echo chamber I guess they've been rearranged for Youtube.

They do. Still love it though.

BTW the link to your blog isn't working.

I'm enjoying Midlake's newest album, Antiphon. Difficult to choose one song but would say The Old and the Young is particularly enjoyable.

Someone else mentioned the new The Civil Wars, also excellent!

The old man still cutting the mustard. Richard Thompson and Salford Sunday.

.

Yeah, the whole Electric album is excellent! 'The Snow Goose' is my favourite track.

But my all time Richard Thompson song is still "Mother Knows Best" (that guitar! OMG!) :rockout:

Well being a Salfordian I had to plump for that track, but I agree it's an excellent album throughout.

Oh yes, Mother Knows Best, Margaret Thatcher's all-time favourite RT song

Love it or loathe it but Daft Punk's Get Lucky must be up there. An insanely catchy piece of funk pop that completely ruled the airwaves through much of the year.

Currently I would say that Lily Allen's sublime cover of Keane's Somewhere only we know is floating my boat. A beautiful song.

Must admit, Richard Thompson never really floated my boat, but you and Dibs moved me to listen to the Electric album on Spotify and still not sure I would buy it, but Snow Goose and Salford Sunday are superb!

Will give the whole album another listen later.

That's the beauty of Spotify, seeking out new music that other people are talking about, and then you can decide for yourself.

With regards Richard Thompson, a must see live act IMO. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen him over the years, but he never fails to deliver. The last time I went to see him I was sat on the front row at the Lowry Theatre, and to see his technique was special.

My wife can't stand him

Haha - My Wife not liking something is almost like a seal of approval for me music-wise - her music collection is truly madly deeply appalling

Living in Belgium, it's a lot more difficult to see him live. I remember a concert in Bristol's Colston Hall. The year was 1996 and I was doing a clerkship in the Bristol Children Hospital. It was an overwhelming experience ('1952 Vincent Black Lightning' by one man and his guitar!); he's really funny too! I saw him once more, years later in Belgium on a festival, and it was rather mediocre. He clearly wasn't in the mood then.

But he's still one of my all time heroes! :rockout:

Hey Mac,

In case you prefer the more intimate work, try Why Must I Plead or Beeswing. Also very nice, together with his son Teddy: Persuasion. Or with his sweet-voiced (now ex-)wife Linda: Walking On A Wire. And of course this beauty. Somebody got very famous covering it! ;)

Then again, his voice is a case of love-it-or-leave-it (somewhat like Julia Stone's, but only in this respect :)).

Thanks for the links Doc, I'll give them a whirl.

You're absolutely right about the marmite vocals. Funny thing is both with Julia Stone and Laura Veirs, it took me ages to take the plunge and buy their albums as I really wasn't sure about them, but once I bought one, many more followed and the same with Anais Mitchell.
