I have a Roksan Caspian CD player & integrated amp & my prehistoric KEF floor standers are well past there sell by date so I'm in the market for some new ones.

I prefer floor standers so I'm currently considereing either the PMC FB1i or the ProAc Studio 140, as they would seem to fill the bill.

My listening room is 4m x 8m & I mainly listen to rock, pop, blues & quite a lot of soft rock.

Your views would be appreciated

Hi

The speakers you mentioned would fit the bill nicely. I know the guys on this forum really do rate Spendor A5, they are so neutral they would do the Roksan justice.

Around the same price you could pick-up a pair of Leema Xones, but they are an aquired taste. For me, though, the best match for the Caspian is PMC GB1is. They are superb in every sense: they have the neutrality of the Spendors with better clarity IMO.

If you don't mind s/hand the Wilson Benesch Square Two's. They retail around £2,200, although with a bit of haggling you could probably agree them closer to £2,000 mark.

Thanks for your advice, will try & locate some Spendors to audition as well.

Regards, Dave

A bit predictable for some and surprise for other but I really really like Caspian with the matching brand pair (FR-5), personally I rate them higher than the ProAc.

what don't you like about your current speakers? ... makes it easier to recommend something different

my choice would be:

IMF transmission line Proffesional monitor speakers (4 way transmissions with Elac drivers ... ebay item 330371144094

I would pay £1000 (or more) for those if I had spare cash .... bass level is superb ... down to around 18Hz .... needs refoaming that will cost approx £20 ....

I would send them to wembly speakers in London for a checkover ... used to own a pair of IMF's and had to sell them .... these may sell for between £600 and £800 (or more)

your going to find the presentation of some of the speakers mentioned a lot leaner than your kefs

if you like the sound of the kefs but want something a bit better in the same vein try the vienna acoustics range

Thanx to all for your suggestions, there's clearly more consideration needed but I'll try to audition as many as possible.

Regards,

Dave

Hi DAB1......I'm looking forward to read your field report on the ProAc Studio 140, the PMC FB1i and the Spendors as they are on my shortlist as well
