Sold. Going, going...

At last! Holy spinny things, never thought the CDP would sell. Only over the last couple of days have I received identical offers (two different users and two very different geographical locations. The first one was declined but the second... what the hell. One less box. Not as much as I'd hoped but... now awaiting payment confirmation I presume.

This is all very strange and new, selling on ebay is a minefield for fledglings like me.

Nappies or electrical products or printing I can sell till the cows come home. But hi-fi stuff?. S###e. Full admiration for Rick and Midland David.

I'm sure you've got it covered, but given it is so valuable make sure you use a fully tracked and signed-for delivery service with insurance to the amount you sold it for. Responsibility remains with you until it reaches the hands of the buyer safely so it is important to cover yourself as much as you can.

Easy innit?

As you have low seller feedback and/or haven't sold anything for a while you may have to wait a few weeks for your funds to be released though. Sell a bit more and regularly and funds are available immediately.

Gratulations on the sale.

Well done PP! You can do AVForums too but with no fees now.

Never sold anything before on auction sites. Agree, that's the only downside - delayed payment to my account. One has to start somewhere...

Thanks Matthew. Yup, all in hand. I'll use my normal carriers for my normal business.

I can't move until Ebay tell me the payment has been made, which can take, according to them, 48 hours.

Result!

The buyer had mailed me and he's paying cash on collection. As long as he doesn't have 9 bob notes, I'll be a happy boy.

That is a bonus. Cash in hand and no faffing about with couriers. Good stuff.

.

Or a big friend, a baseball bat and a transit van with fake plates :-(

Make sure he understands that your only obligation is to show that it works (plays a disc) and is in the condition described.

He is not there to audition it before deciding whether to buy it or not.

Absolutely. No dem but I'll plug it in and fire it up just to prove it works as described. He'll have the box, mains cable, remote and a digital printout of the manual (that came with the player).

Does that mean Ebay gets nothing by way of commission? I thought you had to use PayPal, or is that to give the seller protection?

Good question. Either way, I'd rather have the money in hand than wait weeks for PayPal to cough up. They can always squawk if they want their percentage.

The seller has to offer Paypal, the buyer can pay how he likes. Once the buyer pays cash the seller can. in theory, cancel the transaction and not pay any fees to ebay. The seller won't have to pay any fees to Paypal in any event.

My understanding is that if the sale has been completed on ebay, regardless of payment method, the fees have to be paid.

Only if he cancels the listing before any bids and does a private deal with the buyer would the contract with ebay be void.

It may be tempting to do deals behind ebay's 'back' but I personally dont think its right. The system is based on honesty to some degree and you use their facilities to find a buyer. -

Nah, I had it done to me once. By the time I got home with my purchase, the seller had cancelled the sale on ebay. I needed the feedback too. I was tempted to notify ebay but I still wouldn't have got the feedback, so I didn't bother.

In my experience it's a couple of days. (And buyers have always paid on Paypal within hours of the bidding finishing.)

Not sure where 'weeks' came from.

but you have to give eBay a reason why the sale was cancelled .

Drummerman #3. Because I haven't sold anything before on this auction site.

A few months ago I sold a valuable record on ebay with the intension of posting it to the buyer after the sale. As it turned out the buyer lived close by, picked it up in person and payed in person.

As far as ebay was concerned the guy had won the bid but never paid me for it (I never actually checked but I don't think eBay charged me any fees for the sale). We were both able to leave positve feedback too.

I thought that ebay seller fees were automatically deducted from you paypal account or the bank accounts linked to paypal every month, failing that they try and deduct it from any other paypal account that has ever been linked to the ebay account .

You would have to delete all paypal accounts and the ebay account also all bank accounts/ credit cards linked as well as far as I know.

I think that by a stroke of luck it might have been sold during one of those weekend deals where eBay have no insertion fees which would explain why I never noticed any charges.

Never again.

I've been earning a good living in sales for nearly 30 years (and owned my own small business for the past 6-7 years), working at the sharp end. Selling on Ebay is a complete ars####.

The guy who came was fine but it's all the other paraphernalia that goes with the process. As a newbie, it's a minefield.
