Couldn't tell you how much I've spent and quite frankly don't care... I love music and as long as CD's exist I'll be buying them.

O, and it hasn't stopped me upgrading the HiFi, in fact, since getting the Accuphase, I buy more than ever!

I cant remember but recently I have been buying a lot of Hi Res stuff from the likes of Linn records which is a bit more expensive than CD's so I would say that my average yearly spend on music has probably increased over last year.

Spotify subscription on a (mature) student 50% discount deal - sweet

1 x Ben Folds + 1 x Stephen Malkmus cd 2nd hand from Amazon at approx £5 each

Compared to the £1200 a year budget i used to expend on cd's not bad - i can now spend on equipment to actually play it on

Hard to tell as I just dip in my pocket for loose change - prob. cr £30 total. Thanks to MP3 cd's have the giveaway prices of video tapes at bootfairs nowadays.

Quite a surprise for me, I only spent £22 on 3 CDs, don't know what happened this year, it just zipped past. Just one of my CDs cost more than that last year!

Must try harder in 2014.

I am not sure exactly but about £400 .

If each of the Cd's in my collection cost an average of £7 then I have spent over £12,000 on my Cd collection :O

I need to find a cheaper hobby :)

I presume the OP means all music so I will add about £200 - £300 on live music tickets per year :)

Probably less than £50, but some cds were pre-owned and were only £1.30 each [delivered]. I tend to hear an artist, fall for the music and then buy a number of their works all at once, so I probably haven't increased my performer count very much.

Probably around £100 this year. Mostly on secondhand CD's off Amazon, a few Spotify subscriptions (I don't use it every month) and few single track digital downloads.

your lucky enough Mac having both, music and upgrade.. all my 'upgrade' money ( and more) spend on music, but was by a chance introduced to Electrocompaniet & Harbeth combo and was amazed so much that I don't think my original plan of upgrade is valid any more.. so saving money for some new Harberts C7 and possibly second hand Electro if not new ECI 6Ds... At least by loosing upgrade I've gain losts of HD tracks so ready to put them thru new set up.

10% online streaming subscriptions

20% CDs

70% tickets for concerts (this includes tickets for Mrs49 and the girls)

This doesn't include recent Xmas gift spend on CDs (thanks to Mac for recommendations!) and concert tickets for family.

Definitely an element of luck as you don't often find Accuphase going second hand, but it's taken me many years to get where I am.

You will have a lovely set up with Electro and Harbeth... have you tried either SHL5's or M30.1's?

and if you use CD's I highly recommend the Electro CDP's.

I've heard SHL5s with new ECI 6Ds playing flacs and studio masters... I've seen some Accuphase amps second hand for half original price but not very often.. I tthink C7s better fit my 3 x 5 room.. and no, I don't use CDs.. buying cd and higher quality files, still sounds good on my stereo.. but the liquid sound of Electro & Harberth.. oh, can't get rid of it of my head, heh

I've only got a small listening room myself and the SHL5's work fine, so if you could at least get a home demo, might be worth it.

SH was the only way I could afford the Accuphase, but hopefully one day I'll be in a position to buy new.

Somewhere in the region of £150-£200, but there's 20-30 CDs I've picked up from Amazon for pennies and were albums I already own on vinyl or in lo-res formats, and I wanted to rip as lossless.

Top 3 of the already owned stuff - RJD2 (Since we Last Spoke), Maps (we can create), Susuma Yokota (Grinning Cat)

Top 3 of the new stuff; BoC, Four Tet, London Grammar

I spent more on DVD Audio/SACD formats be it Olivia Newton John, The Corrs, Belinda Carlisle, Star Trek Nemesis, Linda Ronstadt, Rosemary Clooney, War of the Worlds, Celtic irish music and 3 girls duet including Mari Wilson (jazz) to appreciate this media against the common mega numerous classical offerings available. Easily over £300 to compare against CD and streaming versions and I am pleased with my purchases.

I cancelled Napster in Jan 2013 because it was not the same when it became rhapsody and joined spotify by Sept as I relied more on the NAS system & internet radio to fill in the gap. But with too many dropouts on the Sonos system I suspected some form of subscription was required and lo and behold normal wireless service resumed after Sept 2013.

I have also bought more vinyl this year as there affordability at charity shops may produce that inevitable goldmine at a later auction!

OK... so this is either cool or embarassing but it's about £700.

I looked in my FLAC folder and it says 184 for 2013. Please note that there are 3 of us who all buy CDs. On closer inspection there are about 30 which had their contents/album art updated, so that makes it 154. Now not all of these will be full price newbies, I noted that there are CDs like Blur Great Escape, Chris Rea, Guns n Roses, Thin Lizzy, Il Divo, Musicals and some Operas.... all of these will have been bought 2nd hand or cheap new on ebay and the like. So I reckon around 100 CDs for the year. Add to this any we get from Santa.

So I reckon around 100 (to counteract those bought on the cheap) at around £7.00 each gives £700. Divide by 3 peeps gives around £230 each. I know that my wife has bought the most because of the albums listed in 2013 are to her taste... also my son likes only rock/punk and some dance/chart stuff and he's happiest listening to my old stuff from the 70/80s.

Thank you for asking this question because I just saw that bought the Clash singles CD and had forgotten about it. just had a listen............. what a stormer.. in my element on my AKG 450s, no talking... just rocking.

On the question of how much it all costs, current folder count is 2522 albums. I've managed to sell on/give away/bin around 500 albums that i know that we will never listen to again, even for "old times sake" since last year. So if you multiply 2522 by £7.00 this gives £17,654.00 woth of CDs. I used tho DJ when younger so I would hate to add all the record costs to this, as I know this used to be up in the 1000's...... can't count this though as it was all tax deductable etc.

Soooo.... all in all all... a good bit of fun, intersting excercise. Next question ..... shall I tell the others in the family how much??? Methinks not, might not go on holiday in 2014. AND TO END going to listen to Lionel Richie and the Commodores Definitive Collection.

Surprised to see I've only acquired 5 albums this year, although I've done quite a lot of listening on Soundcloud.

Probably around £100 on CD's - I find myself more and more going for second hand albums through Amazon (from Zoverstocks in particular) which only cost a couple of quid each. They are usually in very good condition and it means I can buy more music for the same price as a new CD.

I also have a list of albums that I am hoping Santa will be leaving under the christmas tree next week... :)
