Hi,

Can anyone recommend some small and cheap rears for my 5.1 system? Havent got the amp yet but it will be a Sony 2400es if they ever arrive and turn out to be any good, bascially i am after a HD AV amp with preouts. Stereo amp is arcam alpha 8, Sub is Wharfedale SW250, speakers Tannoy Mercury f1 custom, and i'll also pick up a Tannoy centre.

System is primarily one for music, but want something decent for cinema, hence wanting 2 cheap rears, no bigger than wharefedale 9's ideally, but wil consider something tiny too

thanks!

Simon

Hi Kingnothing
The Q-Acoustics 10-10s are an excellent speaker and very reasonably priced, not sure exact price but under £100, hope this helps you should be able to find a review in this very mag/forum.

Thanks! Have heard the Q Acoustics mentioned before so thanks for reminding me.

The Tannoy FR's seem interesting though! Any reviews of them anywhere? Cant see any during my first look

cheers

Simon

Having been where you are before I sincerely encourage you to stick with Tannoys so that they match the sound of your fronts. If you go for a different brand you'll notice the tonal shift as sounds pan to the rear of the room and it will probably bug you as it did me.

The Tannoy EFX satellites will work fine.

I would stick with Tannoy for the tonal balance, for some reason they only work well together in phase shift and audible ranges. Can't fault them though, my Tannoy Mercury MX4's and MX2's were some of the best speakers I've ever owned.

What about getting some older Tannoy's that might pop up on ebay? would they be likely to share the tonal balance?

Just got myself some Tannoy Mercury MR's from ebay for £32. As i was just after small cheap rears i am hoping these fit the bill. Obviously it would have been better if these were the "custom" ones, but still got to be a decent solution for what i was after. Do you think?
