small blu ray player

This little Technika model from Tesco would fit the bill - but it's only a cheap and cheerful player...

On the better-quality (and pricier) end of the scale, there's Panasonic's portable BD player, which can be used with its own screen or plugged into a larger display.

Am trying to think of other options... Players do seem to be shrinking, though, so you could get lucky this year!

Panasonic portable found here i dont know if it's the cheapest place for it though.

Smallest i could find other than the ones Clare has suggested were 42cm

so do you think smaller good quality players will be coming out soon, as that is the max width i can have as opened up a fireplace and put shelves in it, but the fireplace is only 40cm wide as it in the bedroom. the only other option i was thinking of was the ps3, but not sure if it worth it only for dvd's and blu rays

I think the ps3 would be a good choice, you could store music, connect play tv and record, pause live tv and listen to free view radio through it, as well as play blu-rays and dvds.

To be honest, as it's only for a bedroom player (and i'm assuming here you don't have a huge TV in that room? Please correct me if i'm wrong!) i'd go with the Technika. We gave it three stars at £90, but you can now buy it for under £60! Direct link here

I would suggest steering clear of the tesco player, I bought one for my sister for Christmas and it turned on once and then gave up. When I returned it, there where 4 others sat on the desk at customer returns with the same problem. Talking to the assistant a number had been returned in the past months.

Thanks for the heads-up on that. Might explain the big price drop

Yeh it was a killer, it was only £49.99 at the time and with £20 club card vouchers (and a years love film subscription) it was a bargain Chrimbo present. Now they have a shinny new BDPS370 instead, it's a good job she's worth it.

Maybe this is too late of a response, but I swear am looking at my brand new Toshiba BDX1100 Blu-Ray Disc Player I just purchased tonight for that exact reason... I needed a small player to fit my set up. According to my measuring tape... it is exactly 14.2 inches wide (14 1/8 inches) X 2.2 inches high (2 1/8 inches) X 9.2 inches deep (9 1/8 inches). I found other no-name/off-brand manufacturers that had compact Blu ray players (i.e. Dynex, Insignia, etc...) that I was leary of. I was not comfortable buying those because I have many high end pieces (Marantz, Samsung, Altec-Lansing, Harman/Kardon, Infinity, etc... ) that I trust and enjoy, and was not ready to add an off-brand into the mix.

Please spread the word everywhere because I went near insane looking for a unit this size all over the net/world and found it by accident in a store that had only one unit marked "Inventory Prep" in a corner. The staff had no idea it even existed or could find it on their product list?!?! Oh well, I am the luckiest man on earth tonight because on this chance encounter! Hope this helps 🙂

Which country are you from? Sony S-185 has recently been launched in the UK which is only 29cm wide & is comfortably the smallest known-brand blu-ray player that I know of.

Details here: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/blu-ray-disc-player/bdp-s185/tab/technicalspecs#pageType=Overview

Our local Sony Centre has just one of these (in its window) and it looks very smart and compact.

The Sony staff member didn't even know they had it, and it was priced at £99 - how can they charge 25% more in their own brand store than Richer Sounds who have it at £79 in-store? Exploiting pass-by customers who might not know any better?

Perhaps sonycentre man could explain?

Our Sony BDP-S185 arrived today - we're off to test it against the Sony BDP-S380 and Panasonic DMP-110..... Review to follow (will possibly even make this one an online debut test, with review to follow in mag...)

The RRP of the player is £99 which Richer Sounds is offering at a discount. I'm quite confident that this player will sell for £49 on Boxing Day.

I ended up with sony 380 as the 185 was not announce yet and I though the samsung was a bit overpriced.

what I note about both the samsung and the sony is that you cannot put anything (say, a small dac or a macmini) on top of any of them - one has opening lid and the other has curved top.
