Sky Package reduction

Hi,

With the end of the football season imminent, I thought to myself,do I really need my sky sports subscription over the summer? The world cup is on terrestrial tv and I'm not the biggest cricket fan, so I might as well save myself a few quid.

So I decided to give sky a call. I asked to get rid of sky sports for 3 months. They informed me that I had to give 30 days notice, which would take me into the middle of June, which would then only give me 2 months reduced.

However, the operator told me that he could give me a reduction on my bill of £15 for the next 3 months!

Now, I'm not saying this is a foolproof system, but it's definitely worth a try. I am a Sky+ HD Multiroom subscriber, so whether this had a impact on the reduction, I don't know, but give it a go.

The operator told me they get new offers every Friday.

Thanks very much, just phoned Sky to say I'm trying to reduce my outgoings and was thinking of reducing or cancelling the subscription. They've now given me a 50% discount on my TV package for 6 months (£21 --> £10.50 = saving of £63) and said that if I phone back at the end of November then there might be more offers on my account as I've been with them for more than 10 years. Chuffed.

I got £18 reduced to £9 for 6 months after losing Sky Sports 1, HD pack (BBC is enough for me). Well pleased with that whilst I contemplate Freeview HD.

Hi all,

This is a tactic i have used alot with sky and now virgin. All companies like these (BT etc aswell) have a section devoted to trying to hold on to customers, most of them call it the customer retention team and it's a great tactic to say you are wanting to leave or want to cut your outgoings and see what they can do for you!

Also don't forget you can play them off against each other too, for example i have a HD box with free installation (normally £49) and 9months of XL tv for half price just because i told Virgin about the Sky HD offer recently (free sky hd box) so it's well worth the effort!

well, after reading this i gave it a go...only use the sports channel for footy, so they gave it to me for 3 months for 15 pounds!

SKY are not stupid if too many people "try it on" then it will be stopped

So by all means give it a go ,but shut up if you succeed

SKY have always given this "Hot Deal" it is not new

I know someone who was advised by friends who had received a reduction to phone them to cancel after all they will reduce your subs , well guess what they canceled no discussion no offers canceled as requested.

Cost him extra for reconnection when he decided to resubscribe.

So beware of what you wish for

Please dont listen to that request and do share your experience, the point of forums is to share information. The added advantage of sharing information will far outweigh any down side and if there are a few free loaders here who just read and listen to deals but never share their own experience then that is also one of consequences of a democratic and open system.

I certainly do not want people to stop posting Hot deals why would I?

I hope everyone gets a discount , but with SKY this is not the case so the post is misleading there is no guaranteed discount

But once SKY gets wise to it then they can be stopped which is to everyones disadvantage , the result can be cancellation of your subs as requested , you cant change your mind , and it will cost you extra to be reconnected again

All it takes is a comment like " I read on WHF website that" or so and so on the WHF website got a reduction why not me.

There is a difference between reading this post acting apone it and gaining benifit and "Boasting / braging" which most seemed to enjoy doing

Phoned Sky today and they've kindly extended my 50% for another 6 months. Very nice people.

Ah well, Sky have now decided not to extend my half price TV offer.

On my present income, I've decided it's not reasonable to pay £22.50 per month for telly on top of the licence fee so have cancelled the subscription. So from 18th March I will no longer be watching Sky.

I'll miss the recording feature enormously so will be saving up for a Freesat PVR (with a Scart connection for my CRT telly). Will be looking for one with iPlayer because I like Radio 4 extra programmes and I would be nice to listen to them through the hifi in my lounge rather than on the computer upstairs.

There's plenty of other things I can do when I go cold turkey from Sky, so I don't feel the need to rush into buying a Freesat recorder straight away and will probably wait for the next Humax Freesat recorder to be released. At least that's how I feel at the moment.... things may seem different on the 19th/20th March :-(
