Hi...why does sky+ show such a low % of free space left when we have deleted quite a few recorded programmes?..

It's because a huge chunk of hard drive space is taken up by the 'Anytime' service. I turned it off on mine, when I still had Sky, and it freed up around 40% of disc space.

That doesn't sound right to me, to be honest. SKY can't nick 53% of Ian's recordable storage space on his HDD, for 'Anytime' purposes only, Surely? Also, if it didn't free up space to be used for other recordings, why would there be the option to turn it off?

That wasn't the case with my box. I turned mine off because I was at 98% full, and used the extra 40% I got for recordings.

Maybe it's different with newer HD boxes. Simple way to tell, Ian, would be to have anytime 'on', taking you back to 70% or so. Then fill the HDD to 100% with any old rubbish, turn Anytime 'off' and see if you can record anything. I'd be really surprised if you couldn't.

If you do it, can you let us know how it goes?

Sky can and do reserve a proportion of the HDD. TBH, although i dont agree with it, they're aren't "nicking recording space" they cleary state how much recording space you have, and that the rest is reserved for anytime..

It must have been an ancient Sky+ PVR1/PVR2 Pace model that only had 40GB HDD then, as they were the only Sky PVRs that had this function(because the drive was so small).

TBH i didn't think there was many of them still in circulation, i haven't come across one for years, hence my original comment.

Bretty,

As far as i know, the hard drive in my HD box is 300GB, 150GB of this is reserved for Anytime, Box office and special events.

The remainder is for recording onto.

I did the same thing - I have an Amstrad box (a few years old now).
