Just received a letter from Sky offering a 1TB box for £149. To get this price I have to choose the self set up option which seems OK.

Is it worth taking up this offer?

received myself this morning

looks a good offer ... i suppose the answer to your question depends on your need for more recording space

for me probably not if i'm honest ! never get the time with kids to watch all i currently record

before kids it would be on its way all ready !

I would personally go for a free standard HD box, and upgrade the HDD at a later date if need be...

£149 is a lot of money to pay just for extra storage space.Added to that, there still seems to be a lot issues with the 1TB boxes atm.

I wish there was a certified installer method for transferring your recordings from one box to another, I'd love to have more storage, I struggle to stay above 10% free space, but right now I'd lose so much I haven't watched yet I wouldn't want to get another box.

I would quite like to have my existing HD box in the other room where my old Sky+ box is though, then, when I get a new TV in there I can at least use HDMI to connect the box to the TV. <thinks> Hmmm, then I could move the Sky+ box upstairs and use it as a freesat box...

I had one of the new boxes and returned it, becuase everytime I changed between sd audio and dolby my speakers made a loud beep.

Eng advised he was aware of problem, but sky did not care and they were aware as well.

Got given the older box back and no beep, and it was nothing to do with settings or anything

So I will be staying away from the new boxes for now

Got my letter today.

Has crossed my mind to change but not for the extra storage so much, more in the hope a new box means new better components.

I currently have an old Thompson HD box which constantly freezes, is slow and generally loud. (not sure if this is the Hard drive or the fan)

By the sounds of things they are no better in terms of quality with different problems being quoted.

Disappointing.

I upgraded the HDD in my originaly unit to a 1TB as it was quite cheap for the HDD and very easy to do. A big bonus for me doing it this way was the early boxes had both HDMI and Component outputs enableing me to hook up to 2 TVs in HD.

Virtually the same here !

I have upgraded the PSU and added larger HDD which did sort things for 15 to 18 months but now it's worse than ever.

I received the offer yesterday and ordered it last night - scheduled for delivery on the 27th of this month.

I feel it has to be worth a go and if it fails to impress me then I will argue for a new standard HD box.

Interestingly, on another well known Forum site there were dozens of posts stating varying levels of the 'deal'. These ranged from £149 all in (what I got with absolutely no hassle) to this plus £30 delivery to others receiving an offer stating £249 all in. Then, after various people contacted Sky they were told stories of - no stock till Friday call back then, credit on account to reimburse the £30 P+P but, the best had to be the amount of people saying that they were told 'What Deal's that then' ?

Ah well, I can but hope that it will be good.

Cheers.

Well at 08:30 this morning I called and got one for £149, free delivery and self installation.
I had the offer through in the post.

The surprising thing was I expected them to say that I must have the HD pack as it seems to say that in the conditions.

However as I am using this to replace a multiroom standard Sky+ PVR2 just because it has a larger disk and can receive free HD.
So as I am keeping my thompson HD with HD pack as my main box I was told that as I already had the HD pack it was optional the New HD box.

So fingers crossed waiting for Sky to scrap the HD pack charge on multiroom boxes.
As its multiroom and I pay the HD pack already I think you should receive the channels on the multiroom boxes FOC.

I took them up on the £149 all-in offer. I'm fed up with my old Thomson box continually freezing and, also, failing on recordings for no good reason. It's always almost full too as I work away from home a lot.

Had my letter yesterday - £249 with free self installation (very generous!)

Any ideas why some customers are being offered a £100 discount?

I got my new 1Tb box on Tuesday (1 day earlier than promised) and connected / activated yesterday (Wednesday) and so far so good !

I am impressed with it's quietness and although I have only done 6 or 7 recordings just to put it through it's paces, they have all been flawless.

I will report back if the situation changes.
