I have a Samsung Sky+HD box connected to a Yamaha RX-V361 amp. When the Sky sound setting is switched to the "Digital" option I get a distortion on the sound. The connection is via a Belkin optical lead. The sound quality is fine when a DVD is playing so I don't really suspect the speakers, which are Sony by the way. When the sound settings are reverted to normal the distortion disappears.I obviously prefer the Digital sound so am keen to resolve the problem. Any ideas?

The distortion is mainly on voices and action scenes such as explosions etc and takes the form of a back ground crackling. Music is generally OK. Some programmes can be totally problem free, but others are more problematic. Sky Sports for example, the actual match commentary will be fine but come the half and full time inquests the distortion will be back. Have tried different optical cables and sound via DVD is fine.

Thanks

I think id be tempted to point a finger at the belkin optical cable. From what I can gather, the belkin label has seen quite a rise in 'fakes' recently!

Someones 'belkin' hdmi cable was showing 'sparklies' recently on his screen even though it was a short lead. Having bought it very cheap off ebay I suspect it wasnt legit
