hi all,

i cant get my head around this so i hope someone can shed some light.

i just recently upgraded to sky+hd but im having problems.

it is a samsung box and if i connect it to my tv via an hdmi to dvi cable all is fine but when i try to connect the box via hdmi to hdmi through my onkyo 875 reciever, the box is not respondant to either the remote or the controls on the box.

i currently have the box connected via the s-video through my amp with no problems so i can still use the box with sound but no quality picture.the new boxes dont have component connections anymore so i cant get around it that way.

i have my xbox360 and my blu-ray player going through my amp via hdmi with no probs so i know my hitachi tv supports hdcp(the tv is about 5 years old so is dvi only but has the 1080i native res required for sky).

the engineer says it is a compatability issue but i was wondering if anyone else has the same problem and is there a solution.

cheers in advance,neil.

Had precisely the same problem when my old Thomson Sky+HD box went wrong: engineer installed a Samsung and it wouldn't do anything when connected to the 875. We tried every Samsung on the van, and every setting on the 875, but it defeated both of us.

The solution? I now have an Amstrad Sky+HD box.

I believe Andrew Everard had a very similar issue with a Samsung Sky+ HD box and his Onkyo - sure he'll be along with some tips shortly. [EDIT - or even before me!]

In the meantime, i'd stick with the DVI to HDMI connection from TV to Sky box, and run an optical lead from Sky box to your Onkyo - best of both worlds for vision and sound there, if not the neatest solution...
