daveh75:Theres some initial impressions on a couple of other forums, and from what i can gather, it was a good experience-provided you managed to get a seat in the 'sweet spot' .

So how long after 3D TV becomes more widespread before pubs start ring-fencing the 'sweet spot' and charging extra for the privilege of having a seat in it?

Personally, I find my stereoscopic vision usually fails by half-time after the 3rd pint

so I'll not need 3D after that...

But Hogwarts is still real, right?

According to recent adverts for Universal Studios Resort, yes it is.

A mate from another forum went to Sky's first 'Live Public 3D' broadcast in Ireland yesterday and he was blown away by it. They watched the Premier league clash at the Emirates stadium in 3D using the specs identical to the Avatar showings, albeit on a 47" LG 3DTV, but he seems really positive about it.

Sky also showed some Tennis & Rugby in 3D, and a promo of what they would be screening this year - The Ryder Cup is being shown in 3D if golf is yo' thang. Again, he was blown away by it - the whole pub apparently went 'WHOOOOAAAH' when a Rugby ball came flying at the camera !

I'll have to make my own mind up if I ever get to demo it, but he said that the effect was pretty darned good. :/

Seems you found a friendlier one than I did.

Anyway, got to go - off to class.

Maybe Sky and the TV manufacturers should take note from this thread. A forum of over 50.000 members all interested in the latest audio and visual developements, and none of them could apparently be bothered to seek out one of the first public demonstrations of the latest broadcast technology. I think Sky will be facing a huge marketing challenge in the coming months.

I guess thay kept the locations quiet to try and ensure there wasn't a huge mob of people trying to squeeze in the venues.

I'm also predicting that it won't be too long before 3D pubs spring up (or spring out at you!), complete with hooligans painting their fists with red and blue paint respectively, to ensure a really good 3D punchup afterwards

Managed to get seat with a sweet spot when watching 'Up' last year, but only realised this at the end of the film, when I had scrape the gooey remnants of a Starburst (Opal Fruit to the more mature) from the back of my trousers. Not a 'good experience'.

Hee hee, I'll be laughing at that one all day, brilliant!
Nothing more tenacious in the trouser department than a more mature Opal Fruit!

One review of the footy states that the close-ups looked great in 3d. The problem is when zoomed out at normal viewing distance it made no effect at all. Sounds a bit gimmicky.

I was at the Emirates with Sky for the big game yesterday, and watched the first half in 3D as part of their big launch. Click here to read my blog about the experience...
