Should I get a Plasma for a well lit room?

Please can someone advise me on what to do. I was all set to buy the Pioneer PDP-LX5090, but am concerned the room this is going in is a very light room, and it is mostly going to be watched during the day, and in this scenario it is advised to get an LCD. So I considered the sony KDL-46W4500, or the KDL-46Z4500, but following the previous thread about Sony's, am now confused. What TV would you advise (any brand up to about £2500).

In my family room I have 2 X 6 ft french doors and a large Velux and I have ltd probs with reflection. Mind you the tv is angled away from the light sources.

The Pioneer is probably the least reflective of the plasmas. Is it in direct sunlight? If not shouldnt be a problem. My room is bright, south facing on the South Coast and it's not a problem (Panasonic)

The room is south facing so does get a lot of light and the TV will be positioned next to the south facing patio doors, so the screen would be facing North (if that makes any sense?!) It would not get any direct light on it, just a lot of reflective light. Would prefer to get the pioneer but not at the expense of not being able to view it as well as an LCD. ÿ

Know any1 with a set you could borrow. If not then maybe a dealer will sell you one on the understanding that you can swap it for a LCD if it doesn't suit your needs.

Great suggestion, though not sure any dealer will be willing to offer that kind of service. Is too much light on Plasma's really that much of a problem, or is it just that LCD's are a little better? Am I worrying too much, or would it be a mistake to get a plasma?

I'm not an expert, but I always thought it was the other way round, i.e. Plasma better suited to bright conditions due to a usually superior contrast ratio compared to LCD.

With modern Plasma sets reflective issues are minimal as all are equiped with some sort of anti-reflective coating or filtering. I have 3 Plasma sets and it is only on my old Panasonic series 5 I really notice any reflections but even these are not enough to distract.

Trust me and get the Pioneer as it will knock the socks of any LCD

I had a friend staying with me who bought a Panny LCD and I then bought a Panny plasma.

The main difference was that the LCD had a matt, non-reflective screen whilst the plasma has a high gloss reflective screen (can get on your nerves once your eyes start to focus on the reflection). So the LCD could be easier to live with.

This wasn't apparent in the shop (when I was buying the plasma) as it was dimly lit, and I've no idea as to whether it's a common distinction between all LCDs and plasmas.

I'd still go for a plasma and buy some curtains/blinds though!

Hey this is the UK so it's not as if we actually get many very sunny days anyway!

Buy the Pioneer.

And if the room is too light for it, buy some black paint for your windows.....

Sounds as though the general opinion is to go for the pioneer? (Which is the one I really want). I am wrong to think there is as much of an issue with too much light and plasma's then?

ÿThanks for all your advice so far.

A few months ago I upgraded from an 8 year old Pany 32" crt to a 42" Pany plasma, and the plasma is definitely less reflective than my old crt tv.

If you have trouble with direct sunlight in your room then a set of blinds for the windows works a treat. My room is south facing so gets alot of direct sunlight, but a quick flick of the blinds fixes that problem.

An lcd model might be better in direct light, but if I could afford the Pioneer I would deffinately be buying that and a set of blinds.
