Can someone please tell me what the difference is between the samsung ps50c6900 and the samsung ps50c680.

Samsung do make different, retailer-specific models of their sets - could be that. I'll have a dig around, see what I can find out....

Ok, i've done some comparisons on the specs, and the main difference appears to be that the Samsung PS50C6900 offers the Internet@TV functionality - eg BBC iPlayer, Lovefilm etc, whereas the Samsung PS50C680 does not offer this online functionality.

Without seeing the sets side-by-side, I can't tell you any performance/aesthetic differences beyond that.
