Hi,

i have noticed this a few times but am wondering if anyone else has experienced it or has found an answer. When watching the TV the screen will go blank for about 1 sec and comes back on again. I have the tv hooked upto my amp and the sound is not disrupted at all.

does this only happen when using the tv's built in freeview tuner? or sky etc? or even when watching blu-rays-dvds?

i cant say that i have seen it happen with freeview but then again i dont watch it much, with DVD cant seem to remember seeing it happen with that either but does happen on sky. It does not happen often but it has bugged me today as it has happened about 3 or 4 times.

if it's only happening when your watching sky it's probably a sky box issue imo..

If your Sky box is set to Auto, then the screen will go blank if/when there is a resolution/format change - eg HD to SD.

You can fix this by getting the box to output at a set resolution, but then it will be doing the upscaling, rather than your Samsung (or any upscaling AV receiver you have in the mix)

I dont think it is a resolution change as it has happend a few times today when watching sky and then when watching a pay per view film, i did rewind the film to see if it happened again but nothing.

Weather conditions?

We've had a range of Sky niggles today - probably due to a dish smothered in snow/atmosphere full of the stuff!

Hi mark8par, i have a Samsung UE46C8000 and it done exactly that to me tonight , black screen for about a second then back to normal .

Only time it has happened mind so would not be overly concerned and would not have even noticed if it had not been for having read this thread.

Bit of a worry though!!

I have been doing a little research into this and i believe its known as blinking. I have changed the settings in the SKY box to auto as Clare suggested and it has not done it since. I am beginning to wonder if it could be something to do with which one of them is doing the upscaling.

How can i tell which of my setup is doing the upscaling now TV or Receiver

I have a Denon 4308A

i think your denon can be set to upscale to 1080p over hdmi, if so then the input from your sky box (be that 576p or 1080i, if it's set to auto), can be upscaled to 1080p by your denon, which will probably give you a better picture as the denon is likely to have a better scaler than the sky box, and should sort the temporary screen blanking issue (if it's a resolution change issue) as the tv will be receiving a constant 1080p feed..
