I , like many others decided on getting the w4500 or cant make up minds due to the threads of problems. I know plasmas are good and reliable, i just like the LCD picture. I have been waiting for a review for the series 9 samsung as i had high hopes. Im hoping whathifi will have the review in the new issue....Anyway i have finally found a review on of it on another site and they say ITS THE BEST LCD TO DATE. That means better than the sony W4500 but without the clouding problem and better blacks. My problem may be solved. Just need whathifi to confirm its a great tv. Here is a little quote form the review i found elsewhere...

"We'll put this out there: if you're looking for a plasma-like picture without the associated burn-in problems then the Series 9 Samsung is the king. In fact, because this TV doesn't have the light bleed or off-axis discolouration problems of other LCDs, we think you could fool most people — experts included — into believing this was a plasma TV."

" The bottom line : The Samsung LA46A950 is without a doubt the best LCD television we've seen up until this point and proof that the technology has some fire left in it yet"

Sadly we haven't had the 46in Samsung 9 series in - but we have had its big brother 55in set (Samsung's decision, not ours - we'd requested a 46in, and are continuing to do so...). A review of that will be going up online later today....

Hi Go the Plasma route, I have seen the Series 9 Samsung and yes it is a better picture than the dreaded Sony, but for consistancy in sound and picture Panasonic or Pioneer ive gone for the Pioneer .

As we made clear in our Awards, if price/size is no object, the Pioneer Kuro plasmas (50 and 60in) are simply the best TVs you can buy. But not everyone has that budget or tolerance for a 50in+ set....

OK, review now up.

In short - backlight not an issue cos of LED backlighting. Stupendous black and details levels. However - and this may be down to the 55in panel - scaling and colours not class-leading.

We'll continue to press Samsung for the 46in model, cos if that gets the scaling/colours right, it could be right up there....

This is worrying. I know its not the 46" version, which would be the one i would get and the 55" is very expensive and if i could afford that, i would get a pioneer. But its a shame it didnt get 5 stars for picture. I was expecting a better picture review. personally i think 55" is too big for an LCD when Pioneer are there to crush any rival. Still cant decide which tv tho. December 15th is the date i get the money for a whole new setup, but £1500 is my max for a TV....and want a 46".....and prefered the picture of the W4500 than a panny. Was just hoping the new samsung would beat the W4500 as im worried about getting a clouding dodgy sony.

Me too, I just can't push the funds to the 5090 Pioneer considering my Receiver and speaker package requirements.

the series 9 does look good and has had some very good reviews.John archer on trusted reviews.com said it was the best LCD picture he has seen although what hi fi's review isn't quite so good.it's worth bearing in mind that the series 7 has the same picture spec 2000000:1 contrast ratio and the all important smart LED plus all the other processing features.

i still can't decide.at the moment the samsung seams like the better option over the risky sony.

other models i'm considering is the series 7 or 8(but the specs are a little less.WHAT HI FI in their latest issue gave it 5 stars)also the philips 47PFL9703.

maybe it might just be worth waiting till next year as i'm sure there will be new tv's from different manufacturers with freesat built in! what to do hey!
