The settings one person uses will not necessarily work for you - ambient lighting conditions and even individual product variations will mean that it's impossible to have a generic setting that works for all. What you are best off doing is Googling "Screen calibration" or a variation of that until you find some free software you can download (always scan for viruses!), put on a disk and play through your screen to calibrate yourself. If you're not strapped for cash and don't trust yourself you can always pay for a pro with proper meters to come and do it but you're looking at anything up to £200 for the privilege!

I have same TV and I got my hands on a Blu Ray calabration disc and it certainly improved the picture.

Hi,

Agree with both AEJim and Dermondo's points. However, cheaper than buying a specific line-up disc or going to the expense of an ISF calibration engineer, try using the THX alignment and set up patterns which are included free on many DVD discs (all the Star Wars and Pixar discs include them I believe). For the full line-up you'll need to get hold of a pair of THX specs which were given away free by this very generous magazine and I'm sure if you ask nicely enough (and perhaps subscribe!?) they might find a pair sitting around in their offices you could have !

(sorry but a little side note for AEJim - love my Aegis Neo surround system, but can't seem to get rid of a 50Hz mains hum in the sub - any ideas?)

Enjoy your TV

Rob

From my experiance there is no easy way to properly calibrate and simply setting it up using settings found posted somewhere on the net is IMHO definatly not the route to take as most of these are going to be way off for your ideal settings for your TV in your home enviroment as there are many differing factors that come into play whilst calibrating YOUR TV eg you Blu-Ray player and cable used etc.

A good starting point is something like the THX potimiser paterns found on many DVDs, then even better something like THIS

For a more advanced and detailed explination on properly calibrating your TV I recomend having a read through this guys advice

No and very minimal.

I have a lower model - LA37B530 - 37" full HD.

It took me about 3 weeks of trial and error - and believe this to be the best way.

I'm quite shocked that some calibration tools completely ignore the backlight - I have mine relatively high for movies - 8.

That's what I thought about the backlight no mention of it at all, a bit slack and I have mine set at 5.

Seeing as the backlight setting has a major effect on the brightness of a LCD it is easy to set correctly using test partrns as you use both backlight and brightness together to achevie the best you can by eye, from my experiance backlight should be somewhere between 3-5 as above that you tend to find it makes the picture bloom. This is even more acurate by using a meter/PC software combo as this will give you the ftl reading.
