Hi all, does anyone know if either the Sony BDP-S350 or the Panasonic DMP-BD35 offer SACD playback via HDMI? If not, can anyone recommend a player that does?

No they don't. I'm not sure that there is a universal player out yet and if there is, you will need about £1k at least to get it.

Thanks for those replies, fellas. My oother option then is to go for something like the Pioneer DV610 for SACD at least, but has anyone actually heard any SACD on it via HDMI? How does it compare next to an analogue-based setup? And would it sound better than my faithful old DV575?

Hi Andrew, if i remember you speak with 1st hand experience with the Oppo don"t you. Well he could also consider a Pioneer DVLX50 which can be had for £199.95 if there are any left. [discontinued model now] I think.

I have the Pioneer DVLX50 DVD player that was suggested in 2 previous posts and can recommend it! Brilliant universal player; fab DVD upscaler and not only a very good SACD player but also great with DVD-A too. Beats my Sony HDD recorder on all disc-playing duties. Plays SACD and DVD-A over HDMI, so no need for loads of analogue interconnects if connecting to HDMI receiver, but does have multi-channel output if needed.

Thanks for those pointers chaps. The LX50 has certainly picked up some great reviews, my only hesitancy regarding it is that I'm also paying for a largely unwanted extra dvd drive, to add to my hd-dvd player, my ex75 dvd/hdd player, my pc, my xbox, my dv575. I read that the lx50 has a great dvd upscaler, so perhaps it would supplant my ep-10 as first choice......In any case, I certainly want to reduce my mass of cabling, and also from an aesthetic viewpoint prefer the idea of an all-digital interconnection from the sacd to the amp, than my current Qunex 3 multichannel setup.

This was exactly the same dilemma I had...in view of a) long wait for DVD-A and SACD compatibility with BD players and b) the expected high initial price that these players will command, I finally decided to invest in the LX50. Can't comment on performance of your HD player, but the LX50 is indeed a great upscaler wnd would be an ideal replacement for your DV575. My LX50 is connected via HDMI to a Yamaha 763 and speakers are Wharfedale Diamond 9.0...you have a similar system and I reckon you would be delighted with the sound! Your only other option is to buy a seaparate SACD player...
