S760 not talking to Denon amp

Just setup my new player and connected the multi outs into my old Denon 2105 amp (non hd/hdmi model). Managed to do a firmware update over wireless and then set up the options on the player. My problem though is I can't get any audio from my amp, even though I have set the audio out prority to multi outs the player is still sending audio over HDMI. I am not sure if it is supposed to do this as well as the multi outs but it seems a bit strange if it does.

I tried using the inbuilt test tone feature on the 760 to check everything before I tried a film out but had no joy at all. Just spent about 30 mins playing with the amp settings and I can't figure it out, looks like I might have to brave the garage and try and dig out the manual.

So after a good 30-45mins of going through the menus I thought I would test it on Band of brothers BluRay, no sound at all from the amp but if I turn the volume up on the tv I am getting audio via the HDMI (direct from the 760). How can this be when I have told the player to output over the multi outs.

Either I am missing something really obvious or there is some setting on either the amp or the player that is not correct. Anyway I have had enough for one day and will try again tomorrow, maybe if I find my amp manuall things will be easier to set up.

Just downloaded the manual for my Denon, will try figuring it out tomorrow. I just hope I don't have a faulty player, or amp as I have never used the 5.1 multi inputs before. My amp will be well out of warranty if its faulty.

Success at last, found the blurb in the Denon manual and it needed to be on "EXT.IN" on the amp. I swear I tried that last night though, although I hit so many combinations of buttons on various remotes last night I might have missed it.

After getting the sound to work the volume level is quite a bit lower than it used to be via optical from the PS3 with the same volume level set on the amp. Is that normal or will I need to set up the speaker delays/levels in the 760?
In the Denon manual it says it by passes the surround circuitry when using the 5.1 multi inputs, so I take it that means speaker delays and levels etc as well as surround modes? It doesn't sound right at the moment so I am guessing I need to set up the 760 which is a pita as my amp has a mic to do the work for you. Looks like I might need to buy an spl meter to set up the 760 properly.
