"So you spend nearly as much as the electrical item you've just bought on a bit of wire to plug it in. When it already comes with everything needed to make it work in the first place?"

I'd like to see Russ Andrews on Dragons Den...

"...and you make a margin of how much? I'd like to make you an offer."
I never said it was expensive. Though it's only a two-slice - my Dualit 4-slice is better value (even though I spent the first month calculating how much each slice of toast cost)...
Is this the point where I admit my toaster cost £5 in the Woolworths closing-down sale? And I'm still chuffed at picking up a new iron from John Lewis (ex display) for £9? Once a Yorkshireman...

I bought a toaster from Woolies too. It was also £5 in the closing down sale. Unfortunately the closing down sale was the week after I'd bought mine at full price.

I've had a couple of their kettles, neither lasted much more than a year. And despite the cost and supposed build quality, they're seemingly 'unrepairable', though you can have 40% off a new one. Maybe that's their business plan, make a bomb-proof toaster so that you have to keep buying new kettles to match it

You are right about the kettles. The toasters are a commercial product - you will often see them in hotels & guest houses and are difficult to wear out in a home environment. The kettles, coffee machines etc were bought in to capitalize on the success of the toaster as a style item and are not of the same quality.
