It's an RA-04SE....less than 12m old. It was fine this morning - just tried to turn it on....nada! Plugged it in to a different socket, tried a different 'kettle lead' but nothing....no blue LED....nothing.

Any clues as I am in Gibraltar so not easy to return it to UK.

Thanks,

Steve.

Sounds unusual for a Rotel - usually VERY reliable indeed. I'd give the shop you bought it from a ring and ask for their advice. Sounds like you have tried all the obvious things.

Does sound like internal fuse problem. If it's less than a year old, then it'll still be under guarantee- don't take the lid off yourself as this will invalidate it! Get it back to the dealer!

The only issue is what caused the failure in the first place...

***EDIT*** Just spotted the Gibraltar bit...

Any good electronics repair shop should be able to have a look at the fuses for you- as a previous poster mentioned it should be a very simple job!

Thanks to all for the suggestions so far - I have contacted Rotel direct, the original dealer in the UK and also located an electronics supplies/repair shop here in Gib. I am also curious as to why a relatively new amp should just fail as it had been perfectly fine earlier in the day and is never driven particularly hard and the Wharfedale speakers are hardly a tricky load for it.

We did have some thunderstorms around yesterday, but nothing particularly close in terms of lightning.....and everything else plugged in to that socket is fine. So a mystery really - just one of those things I guess.

Update - still not working - the Rotel distributor in Spain has suggested I post it to them in Barcelona (not keen as expensive and risk of further damage/loss) or take it to a dealer in Malaga - but that's a 150 mile round trip (x2) to drop off/collect.

No electrical repair shops in Gib from what I can see....so I've had a look inside and replaced the 2 internal fuses (the 2 I can see anyway - not sure if there's more) but it's still dead.....no power light....no nothing - like it's not even plugged in.

Fed-up as I thought Rotel were pretty good in terms of robustness and longevity.

You say you have tried it in different sockets .....silly question maybe but have you confirmed you actually have power to those sockets?

Tried plugging something else into them i.e. confirmed it is not a mains power supplyproblem?
EDIT Ignore that, I have just re-read your complete thread. Silly me!

You might attempt to see if it has anything to do with the main power switch itself, on the other hand, find an electrician to do that, for safety sake.

Failing that I can only suggest packaging it well and posting to Barcellona.

IT'S WORKING!!

It turned out to be a very sticky on/off switch....a few rapid clicks and it seemed to 'free' itself after some continuity investigations with a meter isolated this as the likely cause.

Very happy - thanks to all for advice given.

Steve.

Maybe ask Rotel nicely to supply a replacement switch. At least if it then fails again (likely), you will have the replacement to hand.
