Hi

I have the following system:

Roksan Kandy CD player, Kandy integrated amp, Kandy 2 channel amp, Kandy 3 channel amp, Kandy DVD player.

The 2 chanel is used to bi-amp. The 3 chanel is connected to the integrated via the video in socket and to the DVD player which outputs the 5.1.

Problem, DVD player has developed problems so decided it was time to change to a blueray player noting that they had the same 5.1 output as the Kandy DVD player. Today connected the panasonic DMP-BD50 into the system in place of the Kandy. Unfortunately the Panasoniic does not have the volume control that the Kandy has. Playing Starwars the volume was excesive to say the least (probably woke up the whole street). Plugged the inputs into the trimmed sockets on the amp and trimmed them down as far as you could and altered the settings on the Panosonic turning the surround and centre down by the maximum 12dB, but still far too loud.

Does anyone have any advise or a solution to this.

Don't want to really go down the receiver route as I love the music sound.

Do any of the current blue-ray players have an internal volume control

Any advise would be much appreciated.

I would go for a cheap processor/amp and use the pre outs from that to your amps, using a seperate input for dvd to your integrated, still keeping your origonal input for your cd.It may mean a bit of volume tinkering when using dvd"s but i am sure you will manage it.

Steve,

Thanks for your advise, was comming around to that conclusion but wasn't sure how you would connect everything to maintain the current cd/amp configuration. Next question is a recommendation on the processor/amp from anyone.

ONKYO TX-SR606 or maybe you can get a cheap old model sr605, either should be less than 400 pounds .

Trouble with that is you will need a linked attenuator for 5 channels or at the very least for 3 channels, centre and the 2 rears.

Neither of which have preouts.

The ideal solution is an AV processor, but they all seem to be huge money these days.

Then maybe a sr705 i know this has pre's as i have one and it was less than 500pounds.

Isn't he already powering all 5 speakers with better amplification than a midrange Onk will provide?

If you buy a receiver with pre-outs, (eg.Yamaha DSP AX763 for around £450)you could connect the front left and right pre-out from the receiver to one of your integrated amp inputs, and use the receiver to power the rear L&R and centre speakers and your bi-amped set up to power the front L&R speakers. For music you simply turn off the receiver and don't lose the great sound from the bi-amped Kandy! The receiver will also have hdmi inputs so connected to your blu ray you would get true HD sound form blu ray discs!
