I've been looking around for the best deal on the TV I want (a pany 37px80B) and have been trying to factor in a 5 year guarantee for safety's sake. I understand that john lewis may well price-match, but it was Richer sounds that caught my eye. They're selling the TV for £569 and a 5 year guarantee for 10% of the price. I don't understand how this can be only a 1/4 of the price of the usual 5 year jobs from the likes of Sound and Vision. Any ideas? Or should I just opt for JL and get the manufacturer's guarantee for FREE (supposing price-matching with Richer Sounds)?

Got mine at Premier AV in Birmingham who gave me the web price (585) instore and then I sent off for the free 5 year Panasonic warranty that is available at the mo.

I have just looked at the Richer sounds site. However, for the Panasonic it says the Extended warranty is not available on the product at that price.
I tried to get John Lewis to price match against Richer Sounds but after a few days was told quite abruptly that they wouldn't because the item wasn't in stock at Richer Sounds and would need to be ordered in. So I provisionally ordered the set from Richer Sounds at the web price of £569.95 with their 5 year panel protection warranty at 10% of set cost. My expected total was £627. I was called back fairly quickly to confirm my order and the representative told me that they could not supply their warranty as Panasonic are offering the "free" 5 year warranty BUT I would have to pay the in-store price of £650 to get it. Panasonic won't let Richer Sounds supply their own warranty ... They can't provide any information about what is covered by the Panasonic warranty so I need to check that myself. Fairly frustrating as the Richer Sounds package seemed a good deal including the warranty.

Successfully pricematched at JL against Sound & Vision for £574 so very pleased. This pricematch was intiated from an e-mail to the branch, sent it yesterday evening and JL phoned back this morning I'm squeezing the 37" in, was originally looking for a 32"! Thanks to all who provide good advice on the forum, very reassuring and helps you keep trying for the right price!
