(Specially since some of the dealers are saying it could be better than the KRP 500a !!!!!)

Cheers !

Well at upwards of £2500 lets hope we see some action soon, with Sony's recent ignorance to its LCD problems it needs a product that performs!

We have this in store side by side with the 500a and the Sony is a match ( or exceptionally close ) for the Pioneer. For an LCD its is surprisingly good with SD material and there are no backlight issues, colour is superb and motion is first class. It is a major step up for the Z4500 but then at the price you would expect that! I can see that some would prefer the LCD presentation but to me - even if you exclude the price - the Pioneer is still king of the hill.

Thanks for the replies guys.. I guess the general consensus is that the 500a still rules ! :) Btw, just wondering how the 500a (Plasma screen) would perform when watching fast paced action or sports compared to the 100HZ, motion flow + bravia 2 pro driven Sony LCD !? :) - for Both SD & HD material ?

Maybe Nick would know as he's seen both the sets in action ?

Hi Darshana, the 500a is still superior but with both SD and HD the difference is small. Plasma still has the advantage over lcd with fast motion and the Pioneer should maintain a higher moving resolution than the Sony. Certianly on the test we have done Pioneer has the edge.

The Sony is still very good though and without seeing the latest offering from Sharp ( the XS series ) I would say it is the best LCD screen avaialble. I am yet to find something that the Sony does badly, it excels with SD, DVD, HD and bluray but is is just that one crucial step behind the Pioneer. Even the size doesnt help its case as the 55" we have is the same size as the 600a without speakers at the same price!

Although I agree with the home cinema's centre verdict, having a 9g kuro myself, you really need to go and look at them yourself as suggested by them. Even the pioneers have their flaws. Comparatively minor considering the things they do well but not perfect. You don't seem to be in a rush so bear in mind that in a few months time there will be a myriad new sets on the market. If you have your heart set on one of the Kuros still made by pioneer I would'nt wait too long though. When the new 10g sets arrive, remaining 'old' stock will probably shift quickly as advised by clare newsome elsewhere. I've heard there are backlogs already in places but the cinema centre can clarify that better.
