Retail DVDs to Media Player?

Hi,

Here's hoping somebody can help.

Is it possible to copy and save all your Retail DVDs to a Media Player?

Like the idea but is it legal/ possible?

Doesn't the "one copy for personal use only" guidance apply as it does with music? (If you keep the copied DVD.)

Unless the law has changed in the last 12 months (when I last looked into this), it's also illegal to rip music. AFAICR the only "legal" copying of digital media is recording TV programmes to watch later.

That means that anything on your iPod that wasn't a legitimate digital download is illegal...

Yes, ripping CDs is illegal however the authorities have stated they will not pursue people ripping a CD for personal usage, however they have made no such statement regarding DVDs/blu-rays/etc partly because ripping these requires cracking the Copy Protection systems found on these disks, which is a (separate) crime in itself.
