My existing box is becoming troublesome, I have to reboot it at least twice a week. I am going to try a master reset to see if this shows any improvement.

If this doesn't work it seems as if I will have to replace it.

Which of the current crop of HD boxes is most reliable, and how do I make sure Sky supplies me with what I want?

I have had 4 replacement SKY HD boxes. Don't pay for a new one. SKY will replace if you threaten to go elswhere. SKY boxes are not very robust and SKy are well aware of this, they will try to get you to pay for an engineer or to take a very expensive maintenance contract, don't do it. They will replace free of charge. I think that the Samsung box is the most reliable...........give the engineer who brings you your new box a cup of tea and a biscuit and ask him to fit a Samsung box.

Cheers

Many thanks for that.

That doesn't always work!!! Sky CS reps can and do call people bluffs when they threaten to cancel. So i'd only recommend trying it if you are prepaired to cancel - Unless you're prepaired to look foolish and have to back down, should they accept your cancellation.

Plus it will be a 'refurb' which may or may not have been properly refurbed/repaired in the first place.

You could try and push for a new box, but see my post above.

chudleighpaul:They replaced my router when I threatened to leave them.I don't doubt it... Just pointing out threatening to leave doesn't always work.

I agree with Dave, there's plenty of people on other AV sites who have had their bluff called. Some are fretting about what to do, as their service is being cut off in a few days.

I've had the odd faulty box, but I've never had to pay for a replacement. Last time I was given a refurb, but as it was cosmetically perfect I didn't mind at all. Wouldn't have made any difference if I did mind, it was all I was entitled to

I am leaving SKY going to Virgin as I think SKY are charging too much. They called my bluff and I terminated...it's called business. Anyway they should change your box. If enough people call their bluff and moan about the reliabilty of kit they will eventually make changes...its called business.

Cheers

I think it all depend on what type of customer you are really:

on time with payments and how much you pay per month

I pay 100.00 per month and never missed a payment, so they would be the foolish ones if they did not replace my box for free.

If not would just watch freeview for a few months then sign back up with a better deal as a new customer, or go with virgin.

They offered me the same pack but with 50mb BB, but refused as their sales attitude and CS was terrible when I called to qurrie the pack again and the price changed 3 times each time I phone, so will stay with sky for now until my box breaks and they wont replace for free.

Pretty bad as they offer new cutsomers free boxes, but wont offer it to existing customers with a good track record.

You'd think...But Sky don't do loyalty!

You're nothing more than an ARPU statistic to Sky, so makes no difference how long you've been with them, how much you pay them etc.

Sky CS reps are limited to the amount of 'retention offers' they can give in any month....So its pot luck if you get offered one or whether they just accept your cancellation.
