Thanks for that, what QED or That Cable did you have in mind? I've seen in reviews that the Chord Supershield has Five stars and so does the QED .I'm looking to spend around £50.00 Thanks.

Any half-decent hdmi cable that meets the hdmi spec (basically any £20+ cable will do)

Dont believewhat you hear about expensive cables somehow improve your picture or sound quality.

The signal is only as good as the source, and most HDMI cables meet the specs minimum requirements and that is all that is neccessary to receive faultless sound + video especially over short runs of 5m or less.

HDMI is generally a case of u receive the signal or u dont (providing the spec is met).

"Dont believewhat you hear about expensive cables somehow improve your picture or sound quality"

Indeed, like in this month's WhatHifi, where they've got a comparison of HDMI cables with another load of snake oil and utter

EDITED BY MODS

I looked at the magazine because I was going to suggest my father buy a copy in order to research something he's interested in buying, but after seeing that article of utter fantasy drivel and lies, I just can't take WhatHiFi seriously as to ever read it or suggest it again.

It should make no noticable difference & you can buy QED at Tescos Clicky double clubcard points plus 3 for price of 2 offer.

I was chatting to a bloke whos job it is to measure HDMIs to make sure theyre to spec

He said apart from the obvious faulty ones, they ALL worked to spec (As they should)

However, he did admit that under certain conditions, a better standard HDMI would perform better

My personal viewpoint was he wasnt measuring jitter to the very highest standards mind

The "conditions" probably being when perks and backhanders are involved.

I mean really, the guff that's spouted in this month's What Hi-Fi is equivilent to claiming that some of your photos on your PC can have dull colours as a result of the quality of the SATA cable your hard drive uses... Anyone claiming this kind of rubbish is either an idiot or a liar, and both equal zero credibility to me.

Although of course your photos aren't being streamed in real time, but are delivered, then viewed. But I think your latter remarks make it very clear where you're coming from.

However, perhaps you'd like to give us an explanation of why you think we're wrong, rather than just throwing out accusations and insults.

And yet you continue to use this site, and presumably you still enter the competitions? Hypocrite.

SATA cable? Computers use error correction. If they didnt they would fail all the time

Learn about what your talking about before sprouting out random rubbish please

God how many times have we been through this , and there is always one thats gets on his high horse thinking its just black and white .

I can tell you apart from the real budget cables i can tell you even cables from ThatCable you get what you pay for , I've had one go faulty with motion judder after the cable was moved around . Every time you unplugged the cable the gold coating rubs off and one just pack up on me for no reason

Other budget cable suffered from poor picture quality and motion judder , and i can tell you now the sound quality is very different from budget and midrange cables but you would never notice it through your standard tv speakers

So i do feel you need to get a quality built cable , which i don't think you need to spend much now to get that

And not taking What Hifi not serious no more andyt, its only buying guidance and product info to help you choose the best products out there just like every other site or magazine out there and what HIFI always tell you is to demo for yourselves to get your own opinion

No disrespect Chebby, but as some people cant tell the difference between 720P and 1080P on a 32" screen, I cant imagine anyone noticing subtle HDMI differences (Should there be any)

I can concur that there is normally only subtle differences between decent cables. I recently bought the Peerless Delta 1m HDMI (V. 1.4) cable and the difference between that cable against my Chord Supershield was obvious to see. Vast improvement in hi-def images-picture & colour really stood out.

If you're going to invest in 3D viewing via Sky or Blu-ray to your tv then Peerless is another option.

£50 from John Lewis or www.cables2u.co.uk. for £34.99 plus £2.39 p+p. Sadly currently out of stock there but here's the link for info. http://www.cables2u.co.uk/peerless-delta-high-speed-hdmi-cable-p-887.html

Yes we can tell the difference between BBC HD (720P) and BluRay HD 1080P quality on our 32" screen. I don't know of... "some people" and what they can or cannot see. I only know what we can see.

We recently had the chance to compare 720P and 1080P with a BBC HD broadcast of an episode of Prof. Brian Cox's "Wonders Of the Solar System" and our BluRay of the same.

The differences were quite clear. I have done this sort of comparison quite a few times since getting the Sony S370 - as BluRay is still quite a new thing for us - and I like to re-assure myself that getting the BluRay version is worth the extra money and that the differences between upscaled DVD (or things like BBC HD) and BluRay are at least evident.

Maybe those "some people" of yours haven't bothered to optimise their television settings but I am quite fussy about that. I can't even stand in a TV showroom without getting eye-ache from all the lurid 'out of the box' settings with (over) sharpening artifacts, unnatural colours, detail-less shimmering reds and overdone contrast.

Oh and BBC HD (terrestrial or iPlayer) is still pretty darned good at 720P, even if it isn't quite up to BD standards.
