Bulb has gone, so any advice on replacements? Clearly the geniune one would be best bet but at £126 vs £50 for a non genuinine, without sounding naive, what difference (really) is there?

Benq (Like all projector manufactures) don’t make lamps, they buy them in from an external supplier, take the lamp out and look for an identifying number on it, (It will be small but should be on there somewhere) then type this number into google and it should bring up the OEM, or a selection of lamps that are equivalent.

No, warranty's up... it's really if there's any major difference in quality - I'm not fussed on a 5% difference in black blacks or white whites, unless there was minimal price difference, biut 50 vs 130 is quite a bit.

From what I’ve read, buy OEM bulbs, either in original or compatible housing. They will cost more, but by the time you factor in the shorter lifespan of most knock-offs with their possible issues, you actually save money. Plenty of posts from people who have bought a knock-off bulb and then were forced to buy OEM afterwards. Bite the bullet and buy OEM or take a chance.
