Repair or buy a new sub.

Hi,

My Kef PSW2010 subwoofer has started to do a passable impression of a road drill when its in manual mode,in auto it won't switch on at all.I have had quotes ranging from roughly £115 direct to kef or £150 through my local hifi shop.

So i have decided to look into a new or second hand sub my max budget is £300, the sub will have to be at least as good as the kef with music and movies.

So any suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks.

System;Sony KDL40W2000 tv,STR-A2400ES av amp,BDP-S370 blu-ray player,Kef KHT 2005.2 speaker system and a mixture of Russ Andrews mains cables,Chord hdmi,Thats hdmi cables.

So many threads of kef subs breaking,I would buy a new one if you have 300.00

pistol pete bought a B GRADE AE sub which he seems to like or look at BK electronics.

Or second hand RSW12 if you can find one.

The KEF PSW2010 is a good sub. I had one and I bought it off this gentleman who specialises in repairing KEF subs at a fraction of the cost quoted to you. Excellent quality of work too.

I will provide the details here when I get home this evening. It is on another similar thread somewhere if you want to have a look.

Alternatively, if you want a new sub, then the ones suggested by Canada16 are excellent choices.

I bought two of those AE subs...the other was for a friend whom has the KEF 2005.2 eggs too (although he has just upgrade them to the IQ5SE fronts, and IQ10 rears)

He felt the AE offered a good improvement over the KEF sub (PSW 2010).....

I've just had a quick look at this link,there does not appear to be any contact details for someone who could do the repairs, i don't fancy attacking the PCB with my soldering iron.So if Ronald could leave some details i would appreciate it.
