Hi

I want to install a new home cinema system in a room where the tv will be mounted on the wall but there isn't room for th amp near it. Are there any ways to remotely position the amp (even in another room) and still be ale to control it with the remote (are there any add on devices that can transmit the signal from the remote).

Thanks

Mark

Quite a lot of AV receivers come with an input for an external infrared 'eye', so the receiver can be hidden away and only the 'eye' needs to 'see' the remote handset.

Or you can buy systems designed for when equipment is hidden away in a cupboard, comprising a receiver 'eye' a powered 'black box' controller and one or more infrared flashers you either stick over the receiver's IR 'eye' or simply mount nearby.

There are wired versions, or wireless ones such as this

many moderm avr have apps which allow you to control everything with your mobile phone. You only need to have wi-fi at home and you can control your avr with your mobile, even the internet radio or the music library from your iPod. Right now the most common avrs offering good apps are yamaha and Denon. I own a Yamaha and this is to me the best feature.

Indeed, there is that too, but I have found several of these remote apps to be a bit of a faff compared to using the 'hardware' remote along with the onscreen menus.

I use the wireless IR system that Mr E has pictured above in my setup with reasonable success - the amp, Blu-ray player and PVR boxes are in a stand behind the sofa. It isn't perfect (sometimes you have to press a key twice or three times before it registers), but for the money spent, it's a very workable solution compared to the more elaborate (and much more expensive) solutions.
