Rel t5 settings for Kef ls50

Hi guys.

Preciate the sub advice in my previous thread. I have now gotten my hands on a lightly used rel t5 for my peachtree audio kef ls50 setup.

My question is now, how would you set the settings? some say to play it full range?? Where should the crossower be?, i want a fast detailed bass, no muddyness or boomy bass that overshadows details in music. And what is the best way to connect it? i know im an newbie

The same advice applies. Set the crossover so it takes over at the point your speakers roll off and take it from there. Really it's going to depend on your room so you're going to have to engage in a bit of trial and error experimentation. Most people have the sub too loud so you can hear BASS. You should hardly notice the sub. It should just be filling in the very lowest frequencies that the Kefs don't reach.

Congrats,you have bought a very nice sub which goes very well with your ls50.

As ID said most things are room dependend.Fact is you should use high level (Neutrik speakon) with your sub connecting these with your amp for best sound.

Play bass heavy music and disconnect the ls 50.Place the sub at your listening position and search for places where the bass sounds best/stongest in your room.These are the places you should/can place your sub for best response at your seating position.Ideally your sub should be placed in line with your ls50 and between them.Normally you can set crossover around 80 hz for the ls 50 and set the volume where you can barely hear the sub,more precisely you should not hear the sub.That should be fine for volume and reference for further playing.Disconnect sub.Use test tones to find out how deep and strong your ls 50 reach in your room.Usually they will interact with room so you will have min. 1 , max.2 bass modes under 80Hz at your seating position. Adjust crossover according to your findings,10HZ more above deepest response from your ls50 due to room modes.Use these settings for second reference point.You can tune now position of your ls 50 within 5 cm and find position which sounds best.

i have the ls50's and i have adjusted my crossover settings by ear which seems to be around the 50-60 area, to get your levels right might take a couple of days but don't over do it (common mistake).

if the op set his crossover at 80hz he would be replicating around 30hz of frequency, which is not good, maybe 10hz over the speakers crossover point but not 30hz, this would cause a muddy response imo
